This is the most direct I've ever heard him...
it is uncanny how well this song recounts my recent relationship troubles and breakup.

This song was probably inspired by the john steinbeck novel 'of mice and men'. The novel was named after a poem line 'the best laid plans of mice and men, gang (go) aft(often) astray'. I have read the book (i recommend it) and am certain that is what the song was inspired by
