This to me is about loving your bestfriend or really anyone and not wanting to lose them because it might not work out.
The first time I heard it I immediatly thought of Alex's relationship with Lisa, breaking & making up all the time, haha. Like in this verse "We would go out on the weekend / To escape our busy lives" He's probably talking about how he's always touring and she's always working with her trees and stuff. I think it's about how he doesn't want to argue with her because he wants to keep her, so he keeps his distance for their best.
When I listen this song, I think of two things.
1) I think of it as this guy being in love with this girl, but he doesn't want to strike out or scare her incase his love is unrequited.
2) They both love each other and it might be a thing where they know it, but don't say it because they don't want to mess up what they have as friends over something that might not work out.
So all in all, the main guy is saying that what he wants with her is just a daydream away. All he has to do is imagine the possibilities, and although it's sort of sad, he seems happy enough with it. He can dream about what they have as something more and never have to worry about stupid fights or the world getting in the way. Such a good song.

Most people on here think this song is about a girl who he is in a relationship with and he keeps her away to avoid fights, or some think its about his band mate but I disagree.
The title of the song is A Daydream Away so I don't understand how it relates to an actual relationship. I feel that it is about a man who likes a girl and instead of going up to talk to her, he fears rejection and instead fantasizes about different things they would do with each other if he had the courage to ask her out.

i guess this is about how he feels about a girl he really likes but he prefers not to have her than to because of argumentes/fights, so this way he'll neveer lose her. :)
When I listen to this song I think about a guy and a girl who is a best friend is his. He is in love with her but doesn't want to tell her because he doesn't want to ruin the friendship. I love this song it's beautiful!

I agree with everyone else who commented before me. I get the idea that he is really close with this girl. They do all the things together that lovers do. But he doesn't want to risk their feelings for eachother by actually being in a real relationship. Afterall, relationships can sometimes tear people apart more than they bring them together. So, instead of getting way too close, since he knows it will result in goodbye, they stay like this. So close, but never quite there. A day dream away. :/
