Anchor Lyrics
When all the world is spinning round,
Like a red balloon way up in the clouds,
And my feet will not stay on the ground,
You anchor me back down.
I am nearly world renowned,
As a restless soul who always skips town,
But I look for you to come around,
And anchor me back down.
There are those who think I am strange,
They would box me up and tell me to change,
But you hold me close and softly say,
That you wouldn't have me any other way.
When people pin me as a clown,
You behave as though I'm wearing a crown,
When I'm lose I feel so very found,
When you anchor me back down.
There are those who think I am strange,
They would box me up and tell me to change,
But you hold me close and softly say,
That you wouldn't have me any other way.
When all the world is spinning round,
Like a red balloon way up in the clouds,
And my feet will not stay on the ground,
You anchor me back down.
Like a red balloon way up in the clouds,
And my feet will not stay on the ground,
You anchor me back down.
As a restless soul who always skips town,
But I look for you to come around,
And anchor me back down.
They would box me up and tell me to change,
But you hold me close and softly say,
That you wouldn't have me any other way.
You behave as though I'm wearing a crown,
When I'm lose I feel so very found,
When you anchor me back down.
They would box me up and tell me to change,
But you hold me close and softly say,
That you wouldn't have me any other way.
Like a red balloon way up in the clouds,
And my feet will not stay on the ground,
You anchor me back down.

I could see how someone might take this religiously, but it probably wasn't written to be that way. If you want to think of that when you listen, though, I think that's perfectly fine! It was most likely meant to be a song about someone you love very dearly who helps bring you back down to Earth when everything is just going crazy. And this person sees you and loves you for who you are, even though others might not do the same, they make you feel wonderful about yourself. I think it's so cute. It could definitely be talking about a relationship (and such a cute one, at that. I wish all relationships were like that, haha), but I like to think of it in a friendship kind of way. This whole album is pretty much about love, and the songs are all very cute. I'm not in a relationship, though, so when I listen, I think about a certain friend of mine who, when I'm crying and stressing out all the time and everything's just spinning around me and I feel lost a lot - etc etc etc, I look for her, and she always calms me down and helps me look at things clearly. She helps me to breathe and she loves me for who I am and that makes me so happy. I adore this song, really. It has a lot of memories attached to it for me :)
First off, the lyrics are "...i'm wearing a crown/ when I'm LOST I feel so very found" But I can't believe I'm the first to EVER comment on one of her songs!! I love Mindy!! So, I kind of think that this song is about Christ. Christ is her anchor. When she gets prideful, Christ pulls her back down. When people "pin her as a clown" (make fun of, point fingers, call names, label) Christ gives her the hope she needs. When others tell her to change or she feels inadequate, Christ anchors her down and reminds her that He loves her.
I could be totally off, but that's what I think!
I don't intend to offend you but I don't see anything religious in this song at all. I think it's just about a guy who keeps her grounded, I dont't see Christ in there anywhere.

I agree with emmylou33. I cannot believe I am finding this song on here today! I love Mindy!

emmylou33 and Froggie777 I think that you take out of a song what you want. Having personally experienced the stability that Jesus Christ has put in my life, I can completely understand getting that out of a song, and I completely understand how someone would see this as a person too. It is what it is for you. For me, it's Christ.

I am strongly agree with leggyblonde's interpretation. Those who disagree, well, you have your own interpretation, and leggyblonde as well. But for me, the song is really about love. Love that is so great, and I interpret it as Jesus, who accept and love us every inch of our skin.

tortorjanec I agree that it can be about Jesus Christ as he knows and loves us perfectly and always makes us see who really really are, when others see us differently... It can also be about someone around you who really sees you for who you really are. I think Mindy often writes about Jesus without making it too obvious, but she may also write about people around her who mean a lot to her: her children, husband....
