Maniac (feat. Cage & St. Vincent) Lyrics

[Kid Cudi]
I swear to tell the truth
The whole truth and nothing but.
Yes
Hey
I am the maniac
I am the ghoul
I’m in the shadows in the corner of my room
This my new hideaway
This my tomb
This is my coffin this is my place for unruliness, no worries
I love the darkness yeah
I like to marry it
It is my cloak it is my shield it is my cape
I love the dark maybe we can make it darker
Give me a marker

I love my
I love my
I love my

[Cage]
I am the maniac, I am the fool
I found a monster in me when I lost my cool
It lives inside of me eating whats in its web
Put black spray paint on my windows during the day
Wanna spend time with it, I think I’m losing it
Or I found it and I’m using it
I wear my shades at night so I can look in the abyss
I see something in nothingness if you could picture this
Put black holes in my jaw lid
I climb the wall, I’m too high now I’d die form the fall
Before the waters to our knees
We can’t climb on the tree’s wash away
And you and I are the disease

I am the mani-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-maniac
I think I’m losing it
I am the mani-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-maniac
I think I’m lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-sing it

Cage is featured in this song. You can obviously tell how he influenced this song. The hell like lyrics, emotional distress and such. Along with saint Vincent, they work very well together.

one of my favorite songs from the album...I think hes been suppressing a darker side of himself for a long time and he finally let it out one day and he likes it. he feels crazy but he like his dark side and he embraces it

This song is defiantly about what most of kid cudis songs are about. Being on some sort of drug. Like when he says" I wear my shades at night so I can look in the abyss" "I see something in nothingness if you could picture this" "I climb the wall, Im too high now Id die from the fall" And I'm pretty sure he says jar lid not jaw lid. Not as sure about this one but I think he says eating what's in it's way not web.

in my eyes this song is about being stuck in the clutches of drug addiction. i'll give my point of view supporting this next to the lines.

paints a back hole blacker - addiction ruins your life. life already isnt all roses and addiction makes it "blacker" I am the maniac -insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting the same results. i'm always chasing the high trying to get higher. I am the ghoul - one who likes darkness Im in the shadows in the corner of my room - right now i'm locked in my room with my drugs This my new hideaway - my room is where i go to hide from the world This my tomb - the addiction is killing me This is my coffin this is my place for unruliness, no worries - even though its killing me it doesnt matter I love the darkness yeah - i honestly love my drugs I like to marry it - be with it all the time It is my cloak it is my shield it is my cape - drugs protect me from reality I love the dark maybe we can make it darker - i love the addiction so i go deeper into addiction Give me a marker - marker = drugs

I am the maniac - same as above I am the fool - self descriptive I found a monster in me when I lost my cool - i found my addiction began to start at a very low point in my life It lives inside of me eating whats in its web/way - it eats away at you body mind and soul Put black spray paint on my windows during the day - use drugs even during the day Wanna spend time with it, I think Im losing it - keep wanting to use, losing control Or I found it and Im using it - or its a beneficial thing for me to have drugs I wear my shades at night so I can look in the abyss - dont want to rejoin reality I see something in nothingness if you could picture this - you would have to do drugs a lot to understand Put black holes in my jaw lid - addiction destroys your brain I climb the wall, Im too high now Id die form the fall - there's no way i could go back to sobriety Before the waters to our knees We cant climb on the trees wash away - addiction takes hold early, "water to knees" that seems early while, water to the neck is late. so its takes hold early and you can't get away, hence we CAN'T climb the trees. And you and I are the disease - your addiction is all on you. its your problem.

this is just my own personal interpretation of this song.

oh and addiction = darkness. for example: in the shadows - using drugs ghoul = one who likes darkness

he never says "I love my" and no one is saying "I think I'm losing it" when you have it in there...

And in case you couldn't make it out the singing in the background says "paint the black hole blacker" it's from the song "strangers" by st. vincent.

I think he referred to "I love my" as the little vocalized part that fades in and out after you hear Cudi/Cage finish their verses as that little guitar solo plays in the background. To me it sounds like either "I'm a maniac" or "I'm a ma-ma-ma-ma-maniac". Took a listen to Strangers. Pretty good song. Cudi did a real good job sampling this song, and Cage really brought it on his verse. I'd have to say my favorite lines (besides the "Paint this black hole blacker, paint the black hole blacker" line) is probably this:...

Correction to my reply about the "I love my" line. Listened to it a few more times and I'm pretty sure it sounds like "I am a maniac".

I think this is about acknowledging the dark side within each of us.
