When I first laid eyes on you
Well, the night just felt so odd
You looked at me and the stars lined up
So I thought I'd heard from God
And I gave him my best shot
Loving you was like throwing a lasso around a tornado
I tried to hold on to you
Took a ride on a tilt-a-whirl that sits on top of the world
Man, I thought I could show you
I've always been afraid of flying
But you can't blame a girl for trying
Felt like a pearl when I was holding your hand
So precious I forgot
You could have any girl but I only wanted one man
And you were everything I'm not
Still I gave it my best shot
Loving you was like throwing a lasso around a tornado
I tried to hold on to you
Took a turn on a high trapeze swinging over the deep
I thought I could show you
I've always been afraid of flying
But you can't blame a girl for trying
Like a vine bends a tree to the ground
I won't hold you down
I tried to climb just as high
But I found all the clouds touch the ground
In this small town
Took a ride on a high trapeze swinging over the deep
I thought I could show you
That I've always been afraid of flying
But you can't blame a girl for trying
No, you can't blame a girl, hey
Well, the night just felt so odd
You looked at me and the stars lined up
So I thought I'd heard from God
And I gave him my best shot
Loving you was like throwing a lasso around a tornado
I tried to hold on to you
Took a ride on a tilt-a-whirl that sits on top of the world
Man, I thought I could show you
I've always been afraid of flying
But you can't blame a girl for trying
Felt like a pearl when I was holding your hand
So precious I forgot
You could have any girl but I only wanted one man
And you were everything I'm not
Still I gave it my best shot
Loving you was like throwing a lasso around a tornado
I tried to hold on to you
Took a turn on a high trapeze swinging over the deep

I've always been afraid of flying
But you can't blame a girl for trying
Like a vine bends a tree to the ground
I won't hold you down

Took a ride on a high trapeze swinging over the deep
I thought I could show you

i wonder what this songs mean to everyone else, i need help with it..
It's about lost love. She loved him and tried as hard as she could to hold onto him, but things just didn't work out. To me when she says, "i've always been afraid of flying, but you can't blame a girl for trying" she's saying, "i've always been afraid of falling in love with someone, but i tried." that's just how i feel about this song...
I think it's about holding onto the love on one side, it hurts but she doesn't want to let go
I think it means that when she first laid eyes on this guy it was like love at first sight for her. It was a different feeling just looking at him, so she gave love a shot. unfortunately the relationship turned out to be chaotic, and was like her throwing a lasso around a tornado, they were both different, she was scared of love, so her fear was probably an obstacle in letting the relationship grow and reach its full potential. although deep down her intentions and feelings were true, they simply weren't enough in the long run. She did try to hold on, but she sees that he needed more from her, but her fear was too great so it didnt allow for her to give him what he needed/wanted. so she decided to let him go and wasn't going to hold him down. in the end she tried to love him, because she really wanted to be with him and thought he was amazing, but it wasnt enough.....but she tried
