Postcard From Paris Lyrics
I remember when my heart caught the fever
You were standing all alone in the summer heat
I was with my boyfriend, my new boyfriend
He was as sweet as he could be
One look at you and I was through
My heart switched up on me
Like a postcard from Paris when I've seen the real thing
It's like finding out your diamond is from her old promise ring
A call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down
The meanest thing you ever did was come around
And now I'm ruined
I'm ruined
In the evening you can catch me daydreaming
Did that moment send you reelin' just like me
I should've gone over, right over
I should've never let you leave
But it's the never knowing that keeps this going
And drives me crazy
Like a postcard from Paris when I've seen the real thing
It's like finding out your diamond is from her old promise ring
A call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down
The meanest thing you ever did was come around
Just when I thought things were alright
My eyes played tricks on my mind
Will I ever be satisfied 'cause all I ever seem to find
Is a, a postcard from Paris when I need the real thing
It's like finding out your diamond is from an old promise ring
Call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down
The meanest thing you ever did, the cruelest thing you ever did
The meanest thing you ever did was come around
I am ruined
I'm ruined
I am ruined
I am ruined
You were standing all alone in the summer heat
I was with my boyfriend, my new boyfriend
He was as sweet as he could be
One look at you and I was through
My heart switched up on me
It's like finding out your diamond is from her old promise ring
A call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down
The meanest thing you ever did was come around
I'm ruined
Did that moment send you reelin' just like me
I should've gone over, right over
I should've never let you leave
But it's the never knowing that keeps this going
And drives me crazy
It's like finding out your diamond is from her old promise ring
A call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down
The meanest thing you ever did was come around
My eyes played tricks on my mind
Will I ever be satisfied 'cause all I ever seem to find
It's like finding out your diamond is from an old promise ring
Call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down
The meanest thing you ever did, the cruelest thing you ever did
The meanest thing you ever did was come around
I'm ruined
I am ruined
I am ruined

I personally think this song is amazing. I love the underline meaning of their song writting. It is about her falling in love with a guy, but when he leaves, her world is turned upside down and she is never the same. Whenever she says "a postcard from Paris when i need the real thing" it means there is no one that can compare with the guy she fell in love with. And saying "finding out your diamond is from an old promise ring" is saying every other guy she meets is like a broken promise and will never be as special. "A call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards unpside down" is like saying your world and all of her plans have been changed ever since she met this guy. Ans she is "ruined" because she is not able to fall in love again, or find another guy to compare to this one.
Just like a Coca-Cola(been to Paris as a matter of fact)and yeah he is exactly like that! Mean and cruel.

Tisk Tisk. You should be so lucky.

More then you'll ever be. ;)

It's 'than,' sweetheart.
It's 'than,' sweetheart.
So sad,so very,very sad...

I have standards. As for mean and cruel, you haven't seen anything until you see me master the whips; chains; knots; and cuffs ;)

Why o' why am I talking to you 'both.' Live and Learn. ...Live and Learn.

Here's what the song means.
It is about the same mistake so many young girls make. The girl begins a relationship with a boy that she thinks she loves or that she thinks is the one for her. The song begins with her reminiscing about the time when her heart caught the fever - the moment she laid eyes on her dream relationship. Although she is already in a relationship, she now sees the boy of her dreams and suddenly realizes that she missed her opportunity by not patiently waiting for the right one to come along.
The song creates a comparison between her current new boyfriend and the one that she now sees but cannot have. Her boyfriend is sweet and she had some feelings for him, but the other boy caused a heart-felt feeling she had not previously experienced - making her realize her mistake. She senses the boy is the real deal. Her boyfriend initially brought the same excitement that people experiencing when they see something they desire on a post card — fantasizing the experiencing of the real place, but once they have experienced that true place “or relationship”, the importance of the postcard now fades. Same with the diamond - any girl would be excited to receive a diamond ring, but if they learn that the diamond came from another ring, disappointment sets in and they feel cheated. The girl is now disappointed because but she accepted an imitation relationship and missed out on genuine love. She was not able to see this until she sees him and feels the immense emotional effect he has on her. But it's too late - he shows up, she sees him, she develops strong romantic feelings, knows that she can't have him, and now feels her life is forever ruined - knowing that the one true love for her will walk away, never to be seen again.
so in this song she has a boyfriend, then see's this other guy and leaves her "sweet" boyfriend for this guy that left her? and then she regrets leaving her boyfriend for him?
it's about her seeing a new guy and falling in love with the thought of him even though she really didn't meet him, almost fantasy. She regrets not meeting this guy or talking to him. I guess she thinks this is the picture perfect guy for her and now no other guy can compare to his image. It's kind of crazy. She is ruined because now she has a higher standard based on seeing him.
Actually I think this song is about a guy she's known for a long time who went away for a while. When he away though she found someone else and now that person is her new boyfriend. But then the old guy comes back in the picture and now he knows he loves her but it's too late because she's with someone else. Only she doesn't know that the boy she's always loved loves her now too.
I remember when my heart caught the fever You were standing all alone in the summer heat
[[ He's been away for enough of a time for her to think she's gotten over him but he's come back and she sees him standing there alone]]
I was with my boyfriend, my new boyfriend He was as sweet as he could be
[[ She now has a new boyfriend and he's a real sweetheart]]
One look at you and I was through My heart switched up on me
[[ But as soon as she saw him standing there all the old feelings came back and she knows she still loves him. Instead of loving the boy she's with, she now loves the other boy who has come back]]
Like a postcard from Paris when I've seen the real thing It's like finding out your diamond is from her old promise ring
[[ This part to me means that just reading about it could not replace the real thing. Meaning the boy she's with now her feelings aren't as amazing as they are with the other guy. Her feelings aren't as real with him as they are for the other man]]
A call back from your fortune teller, she read your cards upside down The meanest thing you ever did was come around
[[She thought she found the real thing but now she's confused, she's got it all wrong. She's suppose to be with the other guy not her current boyfriend. The meanest thing he did was come and turn her life upside down]]
And now I'm ruined I'm ruined
[[ Now she's confused and messed up because she doesn't know what to do. She likes he current boyfriend but she's in love with another man]]
In the evening you can catch me daydreaming
[[ Daydreaming about being with him I guess]]
Did that moment send you reelin' just like me
[[ Asking if when she saw him there did he feel the way she did, just as strong]]
I should've gone over, right over I should've never let you leave
[[ She should have gone over to him when he was standing there alone, she should not have let him leave without talking to him]]
But it's the never knowing that keeps this going And drives me crazy
[[ She just wants to know could there ever have been, could there ever be something more between them. She wants to know, needs to know, it's driving her nuts]]
Just when I thought things were alright My eyes played tricks on my mind Will I ever be satisfied 'cause all I ever seem to find
[[ Just when she thought everything was going great it all gets messed up. This part kind of confuses me. I think it might mean she never really saw him there, it just her eyes playing tricks on her but it lets her know that she will always only love him. She'll never be satisfied with anyone but him]]
someone please tell me the meaning of this song music video-.-
I think this song is about the narrator not appreciating what she already has. She says that her boyfriend was "sweet", but she would rather fantasize about a stranger. And maybe the stranger was only appealing because he left and she never learned more about him.
