Coeur D'Alene Lyrics

When all the lights have faded
The encore’s come and gone
And I can’t take this no more

Well I can’t keep pretending
I just can’t play the part
I need the solace of her shore
I need the solace of her shore

Coeur d’Alene is calling out
And it won’t be long
Coeur d’Alene I’m coming now
Where I still belong

I look into the mirror
I don’t know who I am
The lives are torn apart

I still long for the simple
I’m just a common man
Left with this aching heart

Coeur d’Alene is calling out
And it won’t be long
Coeur d’Alene I’m coming now
Where I still belong

Safe at last in your arms
I’m safe at last in your arms

Coeur d’Alene is calling out
Where the waters calm
Coeur d’Alene I’m coming now
And it won’t be long

As Coeur d'Alene is near Myles' home, this song is clearly about him returning to it.

The song is about a performer who has to keep pretending to be someone he is not, and through that, has forgotten who he is. He longs for a simple life, not the busy life of performing and being someone else.

The chorus is very clear, it is about the man longing to return home, and saying "it won't be long".

This might be my favorite track from a very solid record. Love the main and bridge riffs contrasting with the more melodic chorus part. Agree with the "coming home" theme.

It amazes me that there are comments on this website where people criticize and ridicule the comments of people who shared what a particular song means to them. Songs and music in general is and has always been subjective, objective and meaning very much open for interpretation based on our perception of the lyrics and music. I don't think there is a precise absolute meaning to most songs and to call people names for sharing what a song means to them is quite rude and childish and I don't think the the incredible guys from AB would mind or care one single bit whether one gets the intended meaning of any of their songs or not.

The song actually carries a much darker meaning than you might pick up without knowing one particular fact: Coeur D'Alene is a lake, in Idaho. When he sings about how he's safe at last in her arms, it's about how he's drowning himself in the lake to get away from his confusion.

Song Meaning

@Marrok that's a pretty ridiculous conclusion to make. As the original commenter mentioned Coueur D'Alene (both the lake and the town) are located very close to Myles's hometown (Spokane, WA). I have a feeling he's been "safe in her arms" swimming many more times than he has drowned himself. He also talks about the solace of her shore, which clearly does not indicate drowning himself. Furthermore, he mentions still belonging at Coueur D'Alene. Again, that does not indicate drowning but instead enjoying the location. If you have ever been to Coueur D'Alene, you know...
