this song is awesome. my only issue on the live version is how low he whispers. i have to crank up the volume just to hear him.
as for the meaning, well unless i am reading into it wrong, it is about a love he hasn't got over. obviously they are still in communication when he returned. she appears to be his muse for the writing he does. imo she has moved on, and he is reminiscing with her.
i esp like the part where he talks about the band playing the same 3 chords. the humor helps make it lighten up and not make it terribly depressing.
@feartanic I agree with most of that. I don't think he is in love with her. I think he misses her at times and thinks he's in love with her, but at the end of the day realizes that he's just glorifying their love. But I think we can all agree Mikel has THE sexiest whisper of all time. And voice... Hes just perfect. Haha I agree with that too, mostly. He feels lonely, especially since she is over him now. Things still remind him of her and he hasn't quite gotten over it. He thinks hes still in love with her, but its those feelings of loneliness that make him just want to be with what he knows, which is her. He can't move on just yet.

I agree with the comments...I love the live album.
I think he misses her, thats it. That nostalgic song that reminds you of a summer, a year, a relationship, a friendship, that leaves you yearning for something lost.
He is thinking back to his broken heart and how he lay in his room not knowing what to do (we have all been there)...
