Road to Ride On Lyrics

We've been waiting,
anticipating your arrival.
Turn the light on,
give us road to ride on
help ensure survival
now there's a new day,
sing with us a new way
or be left behind.
You say, someday
we'll know where to go,
but we don't know
I'm always the last one,
never ready for the fast ones,
well it's time to change
so we make our plans,
set our sites on a new land
one that's kind of strange
you say, someday
we'll know where to go but we don't know
you say, someday
we'll know where to go but we don't know
I'm always the last one
never ready for the fast ones,
well it's time to change
so we make our plans,
set our sites on a new land
one that's kind of strange.

I'm half tempted to think this song is how Joshua Radin feels about his career.

"Sing with us the new way" and "Never ready for the fast ones but now it's time to change" Referreing to his more upbeat album.

And how he didn't really know where his singing was heading and now he's on 'The Road To Ride On' to the "new land" that's "kinda strange". The way I see it the new land is fame and a further professional career. Which is kind of strange to him as he picked up a guitar for the first time only 6 years ago to get himself through a break-up, and never expected to be here.

And would never have expected to have fans that would sit on the computer and post their interpretation of his songs on the internet. xD

Added note unrelated to meaning; The end 30 or so seconds is really really amazing.

I've always thought this sounds like a praise song, hahahaha

To me this song is about change and how life is so unpredictable. I think it also talks about how if you sit around waiting for specific things to change "you'll be left behind" and be stuck in the past not progressing. Also talks about how some people think that you can expect certain things in life, but you really never know what is going to happen. I think he talks about how he's always the last one (or so it seems), and never ready for the fast one (things tend to go in ways he's not expecting), and that it's time to change (not hold such high expectations, or learn to roll with life's punches), so we make our own plans (how we tend to plan things in our heads before they happen), set our sights on a new land (adjust to the changes around us and strive to be somewhere else and set goals), one that's kind of strange (striving to be somewhere different than where you are, out of your comfort zone). Basically to me (watered down), this song, Road to Ride on, is referring to the road on life, and we need to keep riding it and learn to adjust to the different things thrown at us or we'll get left behind; and continuing on this road of life it's required of us to sometimes go places that are out of our comfort zone until we're ready to move onto something else.
