Swallow It Lyrics

Seek out the light between
Time and confusion glowing up ahead
Instead of slipping through
You bit off more, much more than you could chew

You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, slow down
And take the time to evolve
You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, slow down

We had a lot to learn
Table manners and grace, how to wait your turn when
Time came to clear your slate
You had too much, had too much on your plate

You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, slow down
And take the time to evolve
You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, slow down

Take your medicine and crawl before you walk
Think it through before you open your mouth to talk
Be an advocate of joy
Find your little heart's desire and

Follow it
Whoa baby you're not ready, slow down
And take the time to evolve
You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, slow down

Baby you're not ready

You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, slow down
And take the time to evolve
You could not swallow it
No baby you're not ready, now

Slow down

No, no, no, no

Don't be afraid, this is your year
It's gonna be alright, you're a performer
Just take your time, but not too much time

No, no, no, no

I love this song,it's so beautiful and it has meaningful lyrics.Maybe I am wrong, but I think he's singing about the fact that if you want to do something,to succeed in something you must take it slow, have patience and everything will be alright.

"No baby you're not ready, slow down And take the time to evolve"-You cannot have it all at once, you have to take it step by step.

"We had a lot to learn Table manners and grace, how to wait your turn when Time came to clear your slate" - I think he's saying that even the greatest people or artists nowadays had to work hard for what they are now, they didn't had anything at their feet at the beginning.

"You had too much, had too much on your plate" - You have to be well-balanced,moderated

"Take your medicine and crawl before you walk" - I think it means that it will be hard at the beginning, and you'll find many obstacles in your way but you must fight in order to follow your dream.

"Don't be afraid, this is your year It's gonna be alright, you're a performer" - Believe in yourself, because YOU CAN do it and don't get discouraged.

"Just take your time, but not too much time" - Have patience, don't hurry, take it slow but not too slow because otherwise you become lazy.

That's my interpretation of the lyrics,I hope it's good.^_^

I am so addicted to this song! It's just kinda different quirky compared to the other songs on that album!

Anyways..does anyone else think maybe it's about the music biz?? I kept getting that feeling ever since I heard it. With all the lines about learning manners and such which refer to how him and The Killers had to learn how to function in the music industry. And the whole thing about swallowing it and being given too much on your plate could refer to when success hit them it was probably a bit overwhelming.

And some of the other stuff (most notably the last stanza or whatever you call it in music haha) kinda comes off to me as stuff they've been told by people in the music biz giving them advice and forcing them along to continue to be successful.

Or possibly it's just about the undertaking of him going out on in his own and making a solo record and the pressure that came with that.

I don't know, that is just my interpretation! But you guys have some really great ideas too!

This song is very Mormon I think. When you think of Mormons, you think of missionaries. Could be about a missionary trying to share the Mormon gospel with someone who could not take it. The more I listen to it, the more it seems to me that's what it means. We had a lot to learn...manners... could be the missionary who was well brought up and realises that the other one cannot take the good principles because he/she's had a different background. It's like saying I don't blame you, that's okay, I understand. Take your time, do what you feel is right for you, but consider what I am sharing with you. This is typically Mormon. Perhaps Mr Flowers had an experience where he tried to preach his gospel to someone who could not swallow it? It could be someone in the same celebrity world as him, as he says: Your' a performer...

Oh God okay, just reading the comments I've got it! I don't think Flowers would write such stuff though. I think Flowers's quite innocent. Listening to it over and over again, I think it's about swallowing some kind of news, info, message you're not ready to hear.

This is my favorite song on the album. Very catchy... Hard for me to say what it's about. Maybe just digesting information that's hard to hear?

Does anyone else think at times in this song he sounds sooo much like Lou Reed? Woah.

a message to the killers members.

That's how it sounds like to me.

Could be a song about a performer trying to succeed. Maybe a song of encouragement: don't be afraid, this is your year, you're gonna be alright, you're a performer. Kind of saying, keep doing what you're doing, you'll make it! I don't know, this is how I see it.

as I understand it, brandon is the receiver here, his bandmates being the actor. We know how Brandon openly talked about other bands in their earlier years and which made bad image for the killers. His openly talking about his ambition being the next U2 heated and mocked by media and fans of other bands. I guessed he is really serious about being one of the greatest band in the world. The last line seems to say, don't push yourself too much, but check your timeline, too.
