Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves) Lyrics

We're self imploding
Under the weight of your advice
I wear a suitcase
Under each one of my eyes

Finally,
I know now what it takes
It takes money
And Aeroplanes

If you Love me let me go
Back to that BAR IN TOKYO
Where the demons from my past leave me in peace
(ah ah ah ah)
Ill be animated every night
The grass'll be greener on the other side
And the Vampires and Wolves won't sink their teeth
(ah ah ah ah)
Im sick of dancing with the beast

AstroPhysics,
You'll never be my closest friend
I find no comfort
In what my mind can't comprehend

Finally,
I work out what it takes
It takes money
And Aeroplanes

If you Love me let me go
Back to that BAR IN TOKYO
Where the demons from my past leave me in peace
(ah ah ah ah)
Ill be animated every night
The grass'll be greener on the other side
And the Vampires and Wolves won't sink their teeth
(ah ah ah ah)
Im sick of dancing with the beast

No matter how much it needs me
Go on and follow someone else's lead

If you Love me let me go
Back to that BAR IN TOKYO
Where the demons from my past leave me in peace
(ah ah ah ah)
Ill be animated every night
The grass'll be greener on the other side
And the Vampires and Wolves won't sink their teeth
(ah ah ah ah)
Im sick of dancing with the BEAST

It's "I'll be animated every night", not "animating". :)

Top class song, definitely one of their overall best!

The band's first release was in Japan, so I think they probably spent a lot of time there early on in their career.

It's probably about the fact they have to travel round everywhere now and want to just go back to Tokyo sometimes to get away from it all. I could be wrong but I get the feeling it's not addressing a girl when he says 'If you love me let me go', I think it could be talking to a label or manager or something. I think the first verse would make more sense then too, 'We're self imploding under the weight of your advice', because they're being made to tour the world and play gig after gig after gig.

I love this song, reminds me of lost in translation.

One line I think is overlooked is "the grass'll be greener on the other side"

That's really poignant to me, it shows that he's got everything but is deeply unhappy.

I think this song is about wanting to get away from everything because they are forced to do things they dont want to do like film whatever they were filming in Japan. They think that if they go to Tokyo and forget everthing then thery will be happier (the grass will be greener on the other side). thats what i think anyway.
