The Animal Lyrics

I can feel the animal inside
My resolve is weakening
Pounding on the doors of my mind
It's nearly overpowering
I cannot begin to describe
The hunger that I feel again
Run if you intend to survive
For the beast is coming to life

Taking more than a glimmer of this tainted moonlight
Death approaches on this night

For the animals soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

I can feel the calling again
The primal need is filling me
Changes are about to begin
And now my blood is boiling
I can see the fear in your eyes
But you can't bring yourself to scream
Time to shed the mortal disguise
The beast is coming to life
Taking more than a glimmer of this tainted moonlight
Death approaches on this night

For the animal's soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

We begin the hunt tonight
Til the power courses the creatures take flight
When the kill is close and I will be satisfied
For the smell of fear tonight
Wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied
You're mine

For the animal's soul is mine
We will be completed right before your eyes
I have no control this time
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

For the animal's soul is mine
And the world around will never hear your cries
An unholy crime
And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

He explained what the song was about for the Rock Band DLC:

"Singer Draiman says "The Animal" is inspired by movies like Underworld, and is about someone that's actually a werewolf and who enjoys the power of the transformation."

The riffs in this song are just spine-chilling.

It's obvious that they made this song to go along with Bleach: Hell Chapter when it's dubbed in English.

Hell yeah

Alright this is my take. How I interpret the song and what it means to me. I’m not saying this is how the band “intended” it but it’s how I relate.

This is a song about someone whom has been abused. Physically, mentally, whatever. They’re a good person, they keep all of the pain and abuse inside, they don’t retaliate but they’ve been pushed so far that they can’t hold back anymore. They’ve finally been broken by their abuser and now it’s all coming crashing down. I can feel the animal inside My resolve is weakening Pounding on the doors of my mind Its nearly overpowering I cannot begin to describe The hunger that I feel again Run if you intend to survive For the beast is coming to life

(The animalistic urge to fight back and take action has become overwhelming. Part of him doesn’t even want to restrain it. He wants to give himself over to his primal urges)

Taking more than a glimmer of this tainted moonlight Death approaches on this night

For the animals soul is mine We will be completed right before your eyes I have no control this time And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

(He’s giving himself over to his animal nature. Accepting the darkness within himself even if he knows it’s “wrong.”)

I can feel the calling again The primal need is filling me Changes are about to begin And now my blood is boiling I can see the fear in your eyes But you can’t bring yourself to scream Time to shed the mortal disguise The beast is coming to life Taking more than a glimmer of this tainted moonlight Death approaches on this night

(The abuser is shocked that their victim is consumed in rage. The savage appearance of the victim terrifies them and it is at this moment that they know that they will surely die this night.)

For the animals soul is mine We will be completed right before your eyes I have no control this time And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

We begin the hunt tonight Til the power courses the creatures take flight When the kill is close and I will be satisfied For the smell of fear tonight Wakes an ancient lust that will not be denied You're mine

(His abuser flees but he gives chase. Finally catching them and killing them.)

For the animals soul is mine We will be completed right before your eyes I have no control this time And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

For the animals soul is mine And the world around will never hear your cries An unholy crime And now we both shall dine in Hell tonight

(He knows he shouldn’t have killed them but he doesn’t care. He accepts his fate, satisfied that he has taken his revenge.)

So yeah that’s my spin on it in a nutshell. I see it as a song of empowerment and the basic struggle of good and evil within ourselves… the suppression of our primal urges and the secret desire to simply give oneself over to them.

My Interpretation

@Banemorth never thought about it this way. That's really a great interpretation. I definitely agree it's about someone fighting back over some sort of oppression

Hmmm. . .the Werewolf explenation is good . . . but I just have to say that it makes me think of Vampires (not Twilight vamps, btw. No offense to Twilight fans). I can personally relate to this song. Particularily the first few lines:

" I can feel the animal inside, My resolve is weakening, Pounding on the doors of my mind, It's nearly overpowering

I cannot begin to describe, The hunger that I feel again, Run if you intend to survive, For the beast is coming to life

Taking more than a glimmer of this tainted moonlight, Death approaches on this night

For the animal's soul is mine, We will be completed right before your eyes, I have no control this time, And now, we both shall dine in Hell tonight

I can feel the calling again, The primal need is filling me, Changes are about to begin, And now my blood is boiling

I can see the fear in your eyes But you can't bring yourself to scream, Time to shed the mortal disguise, The beast is coming to life."

My Interpretation

I refuse to acknowledge Twihards as sentient beings. I should know, having dated one.

I can relate to this song, its exactly how I feel when I get angry.

After his girlfriend commited suicide, he became angry and depressed and he is contemplating doing the same. About control and impulse that grows in severity, and dealing with it. The genuine anger inside and dealing with containing it each and every day. Taking abuse from someone you care for and finally snapping. The inner desire for an addiction.

i believe its "taking form in the glimmer of this tainted moonlight"

Just yesterday, I finished reading Altered States by Paddy Chayefsky (spelling?), and I can honestly say that at least part of it reminded me of this song. I wonder if there could be an intentional connection.

I said that before reading iJeremy's post, by the way.

I agree with the werewolf theory 100% because how can i refute what the guy who wrote it said. lol But i also kind of feel that the theory about a werewolf can easily be related to someone who is extremely angry to the point of no control. Imagine a large male in this instance who feels a need to be violently aggresive and is always feeling it like a drug. Possibly the origin of the werewolf in mythology (even though im probably dead wrong) and so the werewolf becomes a part of movies like underworld and then into pop culture like "The Animal" But this is just my thoughts on the whole thing in general :) Great song nevertheless.

Song Meaning

On one episode of C.S.I. (Las Vegas), Gil Grissom says that "werewolf" has its roots in an Old English word for "serial killer", if I recall correctly. (C.S.I. has gotten things wrong before, so I can't say for sure that I believe it. I do find it a little hard to believe that the concept would have existed when the dialect was spoken.)

guys when i watch the video i got confused because there is a chinese lady involve here,, does china has a werewolf myth?

The lady appears to be Japanese. Someone on youtube commented that its about a Japanese myth, which I wouldn't be surprised by. I somewhat agree with the analogy of it being about wherewolves, except the imagery in the video is all about sacrifice. The woman is dressed in white implying virginity, and since it's a robe it implies a ritual, and she has a cross across her face and paints one across the head of a lamb. This could be interpreted as christian symbolism for the sacrificial lamb.

I don't know about you but the video reminds me of the trailer for the live-action Red Riding Hood film.
