Waking Up The Ghost Lyrics

No one knows
The secrets that I keep
No one knows
What’s in my head
I can’t control
The other side of me
I have lost my breath

Breaking
The pulse of a steady beat
Pleading for sanity
The voices calling out my name

Now I’m afraid
That I am waking up the ghost
Not digging up the memories
That were dead to me
Now, now I’m getting close
Closer to the enemy
That’s inside of me

Under the skin
The soul of the guilty
Under the surface
Lonely lies
Under the weight
The sin is
Eating me alive

No mercy
No forgiveness
Condemn to my own hell
The voices calling out my name

Now I’m afraid
That I am waking up the ghost
Not taking out the memories
That were dead to me
Now, now I’m getting close
Closer to the enemy that’s inside of me

I am waking up the ghost
And digging up the memories
That were dead to me
I am waking up the ghost
And digging up the memories
That were dead to me
Now, Now I’m getting close
Closer to the enemy
That’s inside of me

I'm fairly certain that these lyrics are correct as well. What I get from this song is someone who is suffering from something that they did, a sin as jesse says, and the guilt is eating them alive. They has memories of what happened, and it's angering and hurting them, pushing them closer to the edge of insanity. And whatever they did, they now live in their own personal hell everyday full of the guilt, but maybe it's pushing them to do it again? Hence "the enemy inside"?? As before, just MY opinion.

@Bodom: I somewhat agree, but I think it goes further than a single incident. I think it's a deeper reflection of the general condition of man. We have so many things happen to us throughout our entire lives (the ghosts) and as we mature we have two paths we can go down: redemption or condemnation. If we choose redemption, we experience a forgiveness, a weight lifted off of our shoulders (alluding to Fade Into later on the album). If we choose the latter, condemnation, then there's no hope for us. The "soul of the guilty",...

This song makes me think so much of the Winter Soldier. His battle to reclaim his memories, while at the same putting the past behind him.
