Wisdom, Justice, And Love Lyrics

"I come to this magnificent house of worship tonight because my conscience leaves me no other choice... A true revolution of values will lay hand on the world order and say of war, 'This way of settling differences is not just.' This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into the veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice, and love..."

-Martin Luther King Jr.

This speech by Martin Luther is about how we as human beings are becoming more and more ruthless towards each other. As the song progresses onwards, King's voice becomes increasingly more emotionless and robotic... just like we humans are becoming so emotionless to the point that we can do such horrible things, as mentioned in the speech, to each other.

i do agree with this post but i believe that if you look at the context where its not the full speech it can be interpreted a little different I believe that you can look at the excerpt like if you love someone that person is your house of worship because you love them so much that you conscience forces to tell them how you feel and sometimes they don't feel the same way so the part about burning humans with napalm could symbolize them not feeling the same way is them burning you with napalm because is not love...

Not a song so much as an intro to Iridescent. Still a great addition to the album though; King is a genius and it really speaks to the band's character to include one of his quotes.

As simple as this song is, it is probably one of the deepest songs on the new album. King's words are so strong, and with the rest of the album you really get a sense of what the band is trying to say with this album as a whole.

Dead fatman, what does the whole song mean though? And also what does cannot be reconciled by wisdom justice and love mean?

Yeah I agree :) Though I am slightly biased seeing as I have always greatly respect Dr King. And yes, the song deals with what they said was the concept for the album.. nuclear warfare, apocalypse, war in general, the direction of humanity, fears etc..

It's quite political to sorta answer your question kgrace1023. Apparently in the same vein as Public Enemies 'Fear of a Black Planet'. So this song reflects King's sentiments that the way in which we as humans go about settling differences, that our use of warfare and creation of warriors ruins our humanity.

The line 'cannot be...

nicely put winterman. Also, just some extra info if anyone is wondering, this excerpt is from his "Beyond Vietnam" speech, delivered on April 4, 1967, in New York City.

Beautiful quote. An amazing intro to Iridescent.

Wow. That is an amazing quote. It is to bad that things like that that King has said don't fix the world.

I find it eerie the Linkin Park matches up King's own lines with thier lyrics. Look:

"...The sins of our hand, the sins of our tongue The sins of our fallen, the sins of our young"

"...Cannot be reconciled with wisdom justice and love."

This may just be a coincidence, but as far as an interpretation of King's words goes: He's saying the way we wage wars, and the very act of war, is an un-human sin. And no matter what we try and cannot be forgiven simply becasue it brings about "wisdom, justice, and love." These things are no excuse to kill people and the end does not justify the means.

Haha, sorry, heres what I meant to say:
