Save Me

I'm sorry but everyone jumping to the assumption that is song is immediately about the rev is kind of annoying, yeah a lot of songs can easily be about the rev but it doesn't mean it is, and to me this song is in no way about the rev at all!

I think it's more about life in general, "Save me, I'm trapped in a vile wolrd where every ending is the same as every other / we're only here to die" That line sums up the way I think about life more or less on a day to day basis, I'm always wondering why we live, just to die at the end of such a heard journey through life, and I pray it's worth it, because after all no one knows for a fact what happens when we die. And I find it scary, which could be why the lyrics say "Save me" as if we're scared where we don't know the answers to life and death, so save me from the fear, please explain why we're here.

The verses just sum up how much the world can mess you up, it can completely make you insane, change the way you think about the most simplistic things.

As for "Tonight we all die young", laugh at me all you like, but I think that lines just comical in a way to point out that by the time you hit 30/40, if you haven't achieved the things you wanted to by then there's a good chance that you're never going to. And with how hard the world really is now with economics a lot of people can relate to that.

These are just some of my opinions, I mean this song is so complicated, and I couldn't possibly figure out what the entirety of it means. However, I definitely don't want to jump to the assumption that this one is Rev related.

Not sure the band ever said the Rev wrote these lyrics... in fact, I thought I saw that Shadows said Save Me was one of the songs for which he re-wrote the lyrics after the Rev's passing. I could be wrong, of course.

I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but I think the line "tonight we all die young" is definitely referring to the surviving band members each dying a little bit along with their best friend and brother.

By far the best song on Nightmare, and possibly the best song Avenged has ever written.

Good work on the lyrics they look right to me. Was Quick to become a favourite from a7x, love the melodic chorus and the whole song. Interested in what people make of it.

From that i just kinda guess the song is about someone dying, a friend, and he doesnt understand why they had to die, but feels now hes alone, and a bit lost about what to do asking for help and guidance as seen in the lyrics.

Kick ass song though =)

This song is about The Rev and how his death has impacted on the band. Alot of the lyrics deal with the immense pain that has been brought across the band due to Jimmy's passing, leaving Shadows with a certian disdain for the world ("Save me, I'm trapped in a vile world, where endings are the same as every other, we're only here to die). He is lost in this world with memories of the Rev where eventually everything ends, and he is pleading to be set free of it.

It also seems as if Shadows is questioning God as to why he has taken his brother away. The line "Is it something we did? Is it something we did to them?" suggests that he is asking God if The Rev's passing was a punishment for the music that Avenged Sevenfold created and exposed to their fans ("them" being the fans).

I believe that the final, repeated line, "Tonight we all die young", is a testament to the bond that exists between the band and Jimmy. The band would rather take their lives away so they could once again be with their fallen brother.

this song is sad. but it's a fucking masterpiece. you can really feel the band's pain. this album is really good. it's unfortunate it had to play out like that though.

Many people have given some fairly good impressions of what this song means. However it seems that most of gone down the REV path a little too quickly.

This song was not in any way created for, or by the REV, but is a song about the loss of someone very close.

As for this part:

It has nothing to do with God spiting the band for using vulgarities in their songs.

This is a brilliant song fueled by loss, and an emotional journey. It makes sense that people would equate it to the REV, but sadly more than one person has been taken from the world long before their time.

Who keeps changing the lyrics? Go buy the CD, open the booklet up, turn to Save Me and read, it's pitiful seeing people butcher this song because they can't read the booklet. Once again I submitted the correct lyrics,now lets wait forever for them to be updated.

This could be reference to many things. Especially when the Rev died. With the lines "Tonight we all die young" and "So why'd you close your eyes? Why can't I shut mine?" is meant to be how The Rev died hence 'close your eyes' and 'Why can't I shut mine' may mean that if he sleeps he will dream and things we'll be thought over and memories will play and everything will be a total nightmare. At least if he stays awake he can hold on to the memories and not have to realize reality. Tonight someone died and everyone else lost a part of themselves. Then he reflects on how he is in a terrible place "Save me, I'm trapped in a vile world. ,Save me, Where the endings are the same as every other, We're only here to die." He realizes that the world is full of sadness and death and moving on. Where the only constant in life on this world is death. "the ending is the same as every other, We're only here to die"

In an interview the band said that the Rev wrote the lyrics to this song and gave it to them three days before he died...its like he was writing about his own death and no one even knew it :(
