Abandoned Bridges Lyrics
Well I left the party pretty early
I thought I'd go home and drink some wine
and fuck myself
I didn't want to wake you
As a man, I've known a number of loves
Some of which I'll die with
Some I'm not too proud of
I've lived, loathed, and learned
Set fire to abandoned bridges and watched them burn
Here I am, I'm all yours
I've had enough of small talk and irony
I've had enough hermetic misogyny
I've had enough repeating history
I've had enough; so I left the party
I pulled Matt aside, said "it's time to go"
And set fire to a room full of friends
that I don't know
Well here I am, I'm all yours
I thought I'd go home and drink some wine
and fuck myself
Some of which I'll die with
Some I'm not too proud of
Set fire to abandoned bridges and watched them burn
Here I am, I'm all yours
I've had enough hermetic misogyny
I've had enough repeating history
I've had enough; so I left the party
And set fire to a room full of friends
that I don't know

I believe the song is simply about growing up.
Leaving a party early and not continuing until dawn, having enough and even setting fire to a room full of people you dont know, might be implying that the person is no longer that young person anymore, and they are growing up.
Abandoning your past life and focusing on the future and the one your with.
This album is going to be soooooooooo awesome!
This song is so understandable. It wouldn't be logical to dissect it. To find the reason why. It's just understandable.
So who's Matt?
Actually, I have a theory of who Matt is. In 2000 Mike rejoined Joan of Arc and Matt Clark joined the band as well. They broke up after their How Can Anything So Little Be Any More? so maybe Mike is referring to the Joan of Arc break up. That might explain the last part of this song about Matt (assuming that he is talking about Matt Clark).
