Buried Alive Lyrics

Take the time just to listen
When the voices screaming are much too loud
Take a look in the distance
Try and see it all

Chances are that ya might find
That we share a common discomfort now
I feel I'm walking a fine line
Tell me only if it's real

Still I'm on my way
On and on it goes
Vacant hope to take

Hey I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed
Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave
Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel
Real as ever
And it seems I've been buried alive

I walked the fields through the fire
Taking steps until I found solid ground
Followed dreams reaching higher
Couldn't survive the fall
Much has changed since the last time
And I feel a little less certain now
You know I jumped at the first sign
Tell me only if it's real

Memories seem to fade
On and on it goes
Wash my view away

Hey I can't live in here for another day
Darkness has kept the light concealed
Grim as ever
Hold on to faith as I dig another grave
Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel
Real as ever

And I'm chained like a slave
Trapped in the dark
Slammed all the locks
Death calls my name
And it seems I've been buried alive

Take you down now
Burn it all out
Throw you all around
Get your fuckin' hands off me
What's it feel like?
Took the wrong route
Watch it fall apart
Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate

For you to pay the toll
A price for you alone
The only deal you'll find
I'll gladly take your soul

While it seems sick
Sober up quick
Psycho lunatic
Crushing you with hands of fate
Shame to find out when it's too late
But you're all the same
Trapped inside inferno awaits

Evil thoughts can hide
I'll help release the mind
I'll peel away the skin
Release the dark within

This is now your life
Strike you from the light
This is now your life
Die buried alive

This is now your life
Strike you from the light
This is now your life
Die buried alive

This is now your life
Die buried alive

I think "Save Me" is much more clearly the mourning song on this CD. I think "Buried Alive" is about not enjoying life to the fullest because we're so busy and we get frustrated and we lock up our feelings, and then end up feeling alone and trapped. You might call it depression but I think it's something different, more of a pile of frustrations. I totally relate right now.

The first verse is about what to do now.

"Take the time just to listen" Try to hear something important that someone is trying to say

"When the voices screaming are much too loud" When we're extremely busy and everyone wants our time

"Take a look in the distance Try and see it all" Look for something longer term, beyond what you're dealing with

"Chances are that you might find That we share a common discomfort now" You are not the only one that feels this way, and there is someone who cares and understands

"I feel I'm walking a fine line Tell me only if it's real" I feel alone, and I need someone to help me see clearly what's important

"Hey, I can't live in here for another day" I don't want to feel this alone anymore

"Darkness has kept the light concealed" Another reference to being confused and not seeing clearly

"Grim as ever" Everything looks bad

"Hold on to faith as I dig another grave" This is the important line. The grave is a metaphor for burying your feelings, burying your frustrations, and trying not to deal with them. Faith feels like the only thing left, and you try to keep going but you are really messed up.

"Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel" Everyone has stuff to deal with, but instead of letting it bury their feelings, they just keep chugging along and are fairly happy.

"Real as ever" Reality is what we make of it

The second verse describes how we got here.

"I walked the field through the fire Taking steps until I found solid ground Followed dreams reaching higher" Working hard, dealing with adversity, trying our best

"Couldn't survive the fall" When you put everything into your work, and it comes apart ...

"Much has changed since the last time And I feel a little less certain now" It's happened before, but this time it seems worse, and it seems you are more alone, and less sure of what's really important

"You know I jumped at the first sign Tell me only if it's real" We jump to the wrong conclusion that things are terrible, and we don't have help, and everything is going wrong, and again we need someone to tell us what's real

"Memories seem to fade On and on it goes Wash my view away" It gets harder to remember when things were good, and it doesn't end, and you just want it to go away

The rest is about if you don't make the right choices, and isolate yourself, you become truly alone and tormented and "in hell" even though still alive. I'd prefer not to think too much about that part.

I need to go tell a few people that I care about them and I'm sorry. I hope this helps someone else, too.

this is my fav song on the album. i think its about someone who committed a sin and now realizes that he's going to hell for it and is or isnt accepting it. could be either one

Cover art for Buried Alive lyrics by Avenged Sevenfold

The way i see it, the first half is from someone who's stuck in hell's point of view.

""I walked the fields through the fire"

"Hey I can't live in here for another day Darkness has kept the light concealed"

"And I'm chained like a slave Trapped in the dark Slammed all the locks Death calls my name And it seems I've been buried alive"

Those all make where he is sound like hell. He's trying to get out, trying to redeem himself and taking every chance he gets to do so.

"Still I'm on my way On and on it goes Vacant hope to take"

"You know I jumped at the first sign Tell me only if it's real"

He's trying to find a chance to get out of his situation.

The second half of the song is the gatekeeper of heaven, God, or someone similar. It could even be the devil. They're smacking down the person's hopes of getting into heaven and telling them that they deserve the punishment they got.

"What's it feel like? Took the wrong route Watch it fall apart Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate"

He's knocking at the gate to heaven but they're not gonna let him in. The route he took was an evil life.

"For you to pay the toll A price for you alone The only deal you'll find"

He needs to pay the toll, or repent, in order to get in. That's the only way.

"I'll gladly take your soul"

He'll let him in but not before he does what he needs to.

"While it seems sick Sober up quick"

It may seem unfair but he needs to deal with it.

"Shame to find out when it's too late But you're all the same Trapped inside inferno awaits"

It's a shame he didn't realize what was going to happen sooner but it's too late and he's trapped in hell.

"Evil thoughts can hide I'll help release the mind I'll peel away the skin Release the dark within"

He can't hide any evil thoughts and can't trick anybody into letting him in.

"This is now your life Strike you from the light This is now your life Die buried alive "

This is the life he's stuck with. No light in it, only darkness.

That's my interpretation. Anybody agree/disagree?

My Interpretation
Cover art for Buried Alive lyrics by Avenged Sevenfold

To me it Sounds like hes referring to Self esteem / Or a mental illness thats just my thought

Hey I can't live in here for another day Darkness has kept the light concealed Grim as ever Hold on to faith as I dig another grave Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel Real as ever And it seems I've been buried alive

Cover art for Buried Alive lyrics by Avenged Sevenfold

to me it's pretty obviously about having some kind of purpose/dream in your life, and like putting into it all of your time and hope, so that you may, occasionally, even have to screw relationships with some people in order to fullfill it("hold on to faith as i dig another grave)

@digeratus i think that by "voices" he meant the voices in our head, screaming from the pain that you fell inside

Does anyone else think this song sounds vocally like Pantera near the end, and the guitar sounds a bit like newer Metallica? At first I thought perhaps Phil Anselmo was on this track.

My Opinion

i really thought it was a new Metallica song when i first heard it. lulz

Not Valid

This song is about somebody who has buried their passions and true emotions because of the stresses of life.

"When the voices screaming are much too loud"

This is the protagonist's boss that just wants him to work and not be happy.

The chorus describes literally being buried alive. Feeling trapped. The last line of the chorus, "It seems I've been buried alive" caught my attention. He's not actually buried, the word "seems" means it's a metaphor for feeling trapped.

My Interpretation

To me this song just screams depression...

"Take the time just to listen When the voices screaming are much too loud Take a look in the distance Try and see it all" Basically trying to get some perspective on your life when it's just so chaotic and overpowering/demanding you feel overwhelmed, trying to envision some future

"Chances are that you might find That we share a common discomfort now I feel I'm walking a fine line Tell me only if it's real" Basically that other people are likewise overwhelmed by the demanding world we live in, I think 'living a fine line' is kind of like feeling like you're on the edge of falling apart but just barely keeping it together. 'Tell me only if it's real' is the line I have the most trouble with, but I think it's maybe about seeking validation about the way you feel... like, when everyone else seems to be chugging along fine and you feel like you're not coping, and you just want someone to tell you that you're not weak for feeling that way and sometimes life /is/ too much, it /is/ demanding, and you're not crazy... don't tell me that I'm overreacting or just need some sleep, only say anything if it's that this is real

"Still I'm on my way (On and on it goes) Vacant hope to take" Carrying on through life despite feeling empty

"Hey, I can't live in here for another day Darkness has kept the light concealed Grim as ever" The moment when you feel like... that's it... you just can't take it anymore... if this is what you're life is, then what's the point? You just can't keep going on like this, you can't get yourself to go to work... you can barely get yourself out of bed

"Hold onto faith as I dig another grave Meanwhile the mice endure the wheel" Trying to hold on to believing in something or having a hope for the future despite burying your hopes and dreams, meanwhile other people endure continuing their lives despite going nowhere (like mice in a wheel)

"Real as ever And it seems I've been buried alive" Basically saying this feeling is real, and it's like you've been crushed and buried by the weight of the world to a point where you're physically alive but you feel like you're not living

"I walked the fields through the fire Taking steps until I found solid ground" I think this is implying that this isn't the first time this has happened... they've struggled on before until they felt they had a solid grip on their life again

"Followed dreams reaching higher Couldn't survive the fall" They once more tried to pursue their dreams, but found they went nowhere, and ending up crashing down again into the same spiral of depression

"Much has changed since the last time And I feel a little less certain now" Basically a lot has changed since their first depression spiral, but this time they feel less like they can pull themselves out of it... ending up back there again kind of makes you feel like... maybe I can never escape this? Maybe this is just what life is going to be like for me? It's like it's proof that you'll never be free of it

"You know I jumped at the first sign Tell me only if it's real" Now the jumping part's a bit tricky... I think it might be about kind of... surrendering to it? Like... once the first signs that they're back in that mental state start to appear they just lost hope and accelerate the process by self-destructive behaviour

"Memories seem to fade (On and on it goes) Wash my view away" Losing sight of all the times you treasured, just wanting to wash everything away until there's nothing

"And I'm chained like a slave Trapped in the dark Slammed all the locks Death calls my name And it seems I've been buried alive" Feeling trapped, isolating and closing yourself off from others, wanting to die

"Take you down now Burn it all out Throw you all around Get your fucking hands off me! What's it feel like? Took the wrong route Watch it fall apart Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate" I wondered for a while if this implied possible suicide, but I think it's more... beating yourself up for all your mistakes, all alone with your self-hate, feeling like you took the wrong direction in life and this is all your fault

"For you to pay the toll A price for you alone The only deal you'll find I'll gladly take your soul" Feeling like you deserve this, like maybe this is your punishment

"While it seems sick Sober up quick Psycho lunatic Crushing you with hands of fate Shame to find out when it's too late But you're all the same Trapped inside inferno awaits" I think the 'psycho lunatic' bit is kind of them insulting themselves, calling themselves crazy etc. and 'crushing you with hands of fate' is more about their self-destructive behaviour in the end leading them to this fate. Feeling like it's too late. Nothing good awaits them.

"Evil thoughts can hide I'll help release the mind I'll peel away the skin Release the dark within" I think this is more self-hatred, letting those thoughts get powerful, peeling away the mask of being fine

"This is now your life Strike you from the light This is now your life Die buried alive" Pretty much just saying 'this is your life now, there's no escape, die underneath the unbearable weight of it'

I really do love this song, and it's only grown on me over the years and through my own experiences... if you feel like things are too much, never lock yourself away, never give up even if it's not the first time, and know that it's not your fault and there will always be people who care.

This song sure is about an abusive relationship.
The first part of the song can be seen as Person A's attempt to communicate his concerns about the troubling behavior he noticed in Person B (the abusive one). He tries to fix the relationship, as well as Person B, but he did not succeed. The chorus describe the abusive situation that person A has to endure: control, threat and abuse. Then, the second part of the song portrays Person A's breaking out of the control of Person B, putting her in the place she deserve. I will detail bellow my interpretation.

"Take the time ... Try and see it all" Person A wants Person B to gain some perspective and try to see the bigger picture, perhaps hoping that Person B will realize the harm that she is causing. "Chances are that you might find... ... Tell me only if it's real" The relationship is not doing good for both of them. Person A is expressing their sense of walking on eggshells in the relationship, fearing -the consequences of speaking up.
"Still, I'm on my way Vacant hope to take" "vacant hope" Person A' hope for change has become empty. "I walked the fields through the fire.... ...Couldn't survive the fall" Person A endured difficulties in the relationship, tried to makes things better, but ultimately couldn't withstand the pressure. "Much has changed since the last time... ...Tell me only if it's real" Person A realizes that he made a bad decision , and now feel less certain about the future. "Memories seem to fade Wash my view away" Its time to forget and be forgotten. Chorus: "Hey, I can't live in here for another day Darkness has kept the light concealed" Person A is expressing his desperation. The "darkness" symbolizes the abusive nature of the relationship, which hides the light or hope. "Grim as ever Hold on to faith as I dig another grave" Person B is very grim. Person A is holding onto hope that he can escape its destructive cycle, On the other hand, the are also preparing himself for further suffering and pain, symbolized by "digging another grave." 'Meanwhile, the mice endure the wheel" This depicts a sense of powerlessness and being trapped in a never-ending cycle of abuse. "And I'm chained like a slave Trapped in the dark Slammed all the locks Death calls my name And it seems I've been buried alive" Person A feels chained and oppressed, making him feel as if they're slowly losing himself. Buried alive here is a strong metaphor. You are trapped, suffocated, cant see anything, alone, slowing dying. This relationship must end.

====Part 2===== Person A finally put person B on the place she deserve (that bitch). "Take you down now... ...Get your fucking hands off me" Person A seems to reach a breaking point. The aggressive tone suggests a shift in the power dynamic, with Person A determined to break free from the abuse.

"What's it feel like?... ...Now you're knockin' at the wrong gate" This implies that Person B's actions have led to the deterioration of the relationship, and now she sill see it fall apart.

"For you to pay the toll ... ...I'll gladly take your soul" Person A asserts themselves further, demanding that Person B face the consequences of their actions. The soul is the price. Person A will make person B suffer.

"While it seems sick... ...Crushing you with hands of fate" He is determined to confront Person B, feeling as though he hold the power to determine her fate, even if this means apply a sick an crazy behavior. "Shame to find out when it's too late But you're all the same Trapped inside, inferno awaits" Person A reflects on the regret and sorrow that Person B will likely experience when they finally realize the consequences of their actions but it's too late to change the course of events.

"Evil thoughts can hide I'll help release the mind I'll peel away the skin Release the dark within" Person A is acknowledging their own inner turmoil and darkness and expressing a desire to confront and release it. The lines "Evil thoughts can hide" and "Release the dark within" suggest a personal struggle within Person A that now will be free.

"This is now your life (what's it feel like?) Strike you from the light (let me take in your soul) This is now your life (what's it feel like?) Die buried alive (let me take in your soul) This is now your life Die buried alive"

Here, Person A emphasizes the irreversible nature of the situation and repeats the idea that Person B is now condemned to a life filled with darkness and isolation. The relationship is now over and person A is a different person. He turns the table, leaving person B on suffering. He will never be abused again.

A student of mine gave me this song and now i can't take her out of my head.
