Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.
Baby get up
Open your eyes now
The world's waking up
You'll realize we'll walk to the beat so suddenly
While we make believe
That this will last forever
We won't sleep 'til three in the morning
This song speaks and it's saying the real thing
It feels like we're living a dream
But tonight
We're gonna make this one right
We'll set the stage and let the records play
On a Saturday
And we can dance forever
We'll burn the light that makes the city sway
When we set the stage
We can dance forever
We can dance together
We're crazy enough
To feel alive now
You've got the stuff
When we arrive we'll
Walk to the beat so suddenly
And then you tell me
That we will stay together
We won't sleep 'til three in the morning
This song speaks and it's saying the real thing
It feels like we're living the dream
But tonight
We're gonna make this one right
We'll set the stage and let the records play
On a Saturday
And we can dance forever
We'll burn the light that makes the city sway
When we set the stage
We can dance forever
We can dance together
Turn around
Just move it
With your feet on the ground
You'll prove it
When you hear the sound
We'll both lose it
Then we'll make the rounds to dance forever
And when the music stops
And we can't wait
For another day
Well we'll just dance forever
We'll hold on tight
And think of Saturdays
If you say my name
We can dance forever
We'll set the stage and let the records play
On a Saturday
And we can dance forever
We'll burn the light that makes the city sway
When we set the stage
We can dance forever
Open your eyes now
The world's waking up

Fast Car

Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him.
There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Magical
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

got these lyrics from elyrics.net/read/a/allstar-weekend-lyrics/dance-forever-lyrics.html, slightly modified them too.
Anyways, my interpretation of its meaning:
Its a fun, catchy song, but I feel it has a deeper meaning. Its about two people whose relationship is not really working out. The guy knows that this will probably not work out, as indicated when he says "while we make believe this will last forever." This also shows that he wants it to work out, as also evidenced by: "and then you tell me we will stay together."
Dance and music seems to be what brought the two people together - a common interest. They enjoy dancing together, and the guy is yearning for those times when they would dance and have fun together, and wishes they can just dance forever without worrying about other things that are hindering their relationship.
my favorite part:
And when the music stops And we can't wait for another day Well, we'll just dance forever We'll hold on tight and think of Saturdays if you say my name Then we can dance forever
This part of the song, in my opinion, is the most important bit: this part doesn't have the same catchy upbeat melody as the rest of the song - it is more him saying rather than singing, and it has a hopeful, confident tone to it. It is a very metaphorical part of the song: music represents the harmony in their relationship, and he is anticipating it will end, and they will leave each other. He doesn't want this, so he proposed that they 'dance forever', as in think about the happy parts in their time together. The last line means that if she 'says his name', or acknowledges that he is her love, and keeps it that way, then they will dance forever - they will stay together.
