I think it actually suits Jasper's feelings toward Maria since he used to think he was in love with her and was kind of under her spell so to speak. Maria was completely self-involved and was only using Jasper and other men for her needs. Now he's using the "skills" she taught him to fight the newborns so she's still "in his head" even though he loves Alice now. I dunno, I'm probably way off base.

have to say this is a fooking great song and what i see are anti-religious feelings surfacing and evidence of the dogma involved within the lyrics - to me it speaks of brainwashed christians who are, once taught, never quite able to remove it from their head - hence the title
the first two verses are littered with what seems to me to be anti-christian [offended? then forgive me!lol]

I particularly liked the part that says "Everything you taught me, honey It never even mattered, really It's all of our love for you." It makes me think it refers to a catholic-style dogma, where everything can be forgiven, as long as you have faith. 😂

I think that this is the best song ever I mean it's awesome! And they chose the rite scene 2 play that song in aswell on eclipse coz that scene wouldn't b the same without this song! I just love this song! : )
This may seem weird to me, this song can be the perspective of a family member of a person who is possed by something, like a deamon or something. The deamon is holding them and they try to use holy water to get rid of it. It doesn't have to be a daemon but thats just what the 'holy water' lyric made me think of, it could be any type of vice or addiction that has a hold over someone.

To me it seems like the person who is dealing with this addiction is ready to give up on life, but the love of the people around them keeps them wanting to 'stick to love' or keep living even when it gets hard.
