Sugar Tongue Lyrics

All the fur and fin will lose again
Cause our better is their worst reckonin'
And our fine-feathered friends will sing until they bleed
And how will we replace that symphony?

I've got the blackest boots, the whitest skin
Satisfy my sugar tongue again
Sing me lullabies of shoeshine days
Gilded verses for your atheling
And sing them to me free and clean

All the kids come home with foreign limbs
From hunting trips abroad they lose again
And we'll teach them how to talk
And whistle while they walk
And do the dirty work of battle hymns

I've got the blackest boots, the whitest skin
Satisfy my sugar tongue again
Sing me lullabies of shoeshine days
Gilded verses for your atheling
And sing them to me free and clean

Drinking tea with milk and Janjaweed
Pontificate on genocide or greed
With a spoonful of dissent
For the orchestra of need
It's just enough to please the colony

I've got the blackest boots, the whitest skin
Satisfy my sugar tongue again
Bring me lullabies and morphine dreams
Belladonna with her atropine
And sing it to me free and clean

I believe this song might have something to do with the state of the world. The first verse, in particular is probably about how humans are endagering animal species. "All the fur and fin will lose again / cause our better is thier worst reckonin'" That's pretty much saying that animals are continuosly losing. The "better" of the human race, or rather human "progress" is endagering animals. "and our fine feathered friends will sing until they bleed / and how will we replace that symphony" If things continue the way they are, there will be no creatures left and there will be no way to replace them and restore the balance we disrupted. I'm not entirely sure what the chorus is about, but I think the second verse is saying that we are teaching our kids about how to fight in war ("do the dirty work of battle hymns") be a complacent cog in the corporate scene ("We'll teach them how to walk / and whistle while they work").

this is a beautiful song mixing in her sorrow and depression of all the things that are going wrong in the world and trying to forget all of it by getting lost in sexuality and getting lost in her lover to satisfy her sugar tongue with no strings attached. absolutely beautiful song live.
