On their website it says Amber was at Mount Wittenberg and she saw a bunch of whales in the water. So dave is singing from her point of view and I'm guessing he's talking about how humans fucked things up for the whales, that's why he ain't gettin embraces.
Absolutely fantastic. The song is epic in that way that's also understated. This album gets better the more I listen to it.
