Leviathan I Lyrics

But there is no silence
My thoughts drowned out

(Screeching and grinding
Screeching and grinding
Screeching and grinding)
Resonates

Screeching and grinding
Resonates through a hollow shell
There is no great wisdom
There are no answers

I close my eyes, but all I see is red
I bite my tongue, but all I taste is blood
Once again they set their traps
Set their hooks, deep in my head
Too naive to think these forked tongues would themselves devour

I close my eyes, but all I see is red
I bite my tongue, but all I taste is blood
Once again they set their traps
Set their hooks, deep in my head
Too naive to think these forked tongues would themselves devour

Show me war
Show me pestilence
Show me the blood red hands of retribution

And the abyss stares back
Leviathan I
And the abyss stares back
Leviathan I

To break their hold
Strip the flesh straight from their bones

Cast their limbs into the gears of the beast
Bring this monstrosity to its knees
Cast their limbs into the gears of the beast
Bring this monstrosity to its fucking knees

Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye
Eye for an eye

I'll send this world blind

Show me war
Show me pestilence
Show me the blood red hands of retribution

And the abyss stares back
Leviathan I
And the abyss stares back
Leviathan I

Under a blackened sun
Beneath a hunter's moon
Seething

Dogs of war, they call for blood
But it will not be mine
Dogs of war, they call for blood
But it will not be mine

I feel that most of you are somewhat correct. Parkway's lyrics are not as shallow as other bands, so I think you have to look deaper. Leviathan is a seamonster from the bible, but that isnt what the song is about. Thomas Hobbes (Political scientist) wrote a book called Leviathan... but it wasnt anything about the biblical monster. The main idea of the book was Bellum omnium contra omnes ("the war of all against all") according to Hobbes the only way to end this is to give up your freedom in exchange for order (Social Contract). the book is seperated into parts I II III IV. Leviathan I is the beggining. Hobbes "Leviathan" or monster was giving up freedom for order. "The gears of the beast" are the gears of a political machine. The "Hollow Shell" is an empty mind that the "Screaching and Grinding" of the machine "drowns out". Look at all the lyrics of the song thru this perspective. MOSH ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I suppose it could be about the harmful effects of war, and how we don't realize how bad it is and we just kind of believe that it's for the best.

i know they aren't a christian band or whatever...but it does for sure mention two out of the four horsemen of the apocalypse(War, Famine, Pestilence and Death). and the lyrics "Show me the blood red hands of retribution" could be interpreted as war.

This is his battle. He begins destroying everything the city is. "Bring this monstrosity to its knees."

Leviathan is defined as something large; referring to himself.

"Eye for an eye" - Payback.

Song Meaning

"Screeching and grinding resonates through a hollow shell(a ship)." It's about the noise that come from the ship wood.

"Leviathan I" It's seems to be the ship name, and makes reference to the mythic creature described on the song.

the rest of the song is kinda ambiguous, I have my thoughts on that, maybe i'll post it later.

Song Meaning

i agree with dmarry and burt.. and also i would say that this song has religious connotations too. leviathan is another name for the sin of envy. so i believe that this song is not about war in literal terms but in the sense of Man's insatiable greed and envy, which much of the lyrics allude to. in my opinion, the song is about how envy and greed will destroy us all. i think the title Leviathan I suggests the personification of Envy, rather than alluding to the title of the first part of hobbes' book. but the idea of the mentioned book is spot on. the war of all against all could be taken in the sense that we all envy each other in some way and want to be better than the other... one of my favorite parkway songs. and yeah most of parkway's songs are much more meaningful than the way that most take them.. love this band

it has alot to it but personally i think by "leviathan i" it means envy me as leviathan was the demon god of envy

LOL. I highly doubt they purposely referenced the bible. "War" and "Pestilence" are casual words to begin with. "There is no great wisdom. There are no answers." <3

Alright, so is Deep Blue a concept album or not? Because I get the feeling it is.
