Alone Lyrics
Shifting light outlines my battered form
Stranger to the world
Alone in my abandonment
A gaining army of white horses
Stark warning race before the icy front
The deceiving calm betrays all signs
Of impending change
Evening tide, what do you hide?
Damnation or salvation?
As my skin breaks the blackened surface
The cold is rising, yet all embracing
Darkness, erase this lonesome place
From my every existence
An angry sky bares the signs
A distant violence yet to break
The ocean's travelers cry forth across the waves
Lightning cracks across a vast horizon
Reaching out its hands towards an unsuspecting shore
No light to guide
No ties, no ties to bind
Evening tide, what do you hide?
What do you hide?
To the years spent waiting on the winds of change
(This is penance paid
This is my penance paid)
To the morning sun whose warmth never found
This young man's face
Shifting light outlines my battered form
Stranger to the world
Alone
Evening tide, what do you hide?
What do you hide?
Lightning cracks across a vast horizon
Reaching out its hands towards an unsuspecting shore
With a final effort
I strike out across the swells
Seeking only the answers
Maybe horizons hold
With a final effort
I strike out across the swells
Seeking only the answers
Maybe horizons hold

2nd favourite off the new album.
i think its about being an outcast of society and trying to find your own belonging in the world
He's beginning to feel alone now and really questioning what he is doing. "Evening tide, what do you hide? Damnation or Salvation?" It's basically a now or never situation from here on the story.
Not only my favorite song of the album, but one of my favorites of all time. The riff is unlike anything I have ever heard, goosebumps every time. I've listened to this song more than 200 times in the few weeks the album has been out, and still love it. Like most songs with hard vocals, it's difficult to nail down the lyrics 100% until you read them. Once I read these lyrics, wow, I'm not ashamed to admit that I was brought to tears: "To the years spent waiting on the winds of change, this is penance paid. This is my penance paid, to the morning Sun, whose warmth never found this young man's face." These lines have tremendous personal meaning to me.
i get chills every time i listen to it, as well, favourite parkway dive song by far.

Anyone else think this song sounds like Lamb of God?
This is one of my favorite Parkway Drive songs, and tied with Home is for the Heartless for best on the album. The riff is one of the most emotionally powerful I've ever heard, sends chills down my spine. Not to mention the incredible lyrics. I've had instances of indescribable emotion and thought while listening to this song. Definitely bound to be a PD classic in my eyes.
I think the song is about him being emotionally unstable/bipolar and not knowing who he truly is, what his true intentions are. “ lightning cracks across an unsuspecting shore” could mean him lashing out in anger towards the people around him. “ the deceiving calm betrays all signs of impending change” meaning he’s calm now but can explode any moment “ no light to guide, no ties to bind” being he didn’t have guidance as a child, there’s no one there for him to go to for help. “ with a final effort I strike across the swells seeking only the answers maybe horizons hold” - now this could mean many things but to me I think his final ‘strike’ is suicide because in his song ‘Horizons’ a horizon meant the start/ end of a life. So maybe him seeking the answers for his problems he feels he can only find in the horizon/ his death
