Is a Hope (Drinking Alone) Lyrics

I've been thinking in my wandering
On the way home from your house
That I love you in the way I do,
And if there'll ever be someone else

You're young and you're stable
Stand up to your labour
You're young and you're able
But you need you a saviour
Oh you need you a saviour

Young believers
Come and see her
She has pushed him to the ground
Though with one hand he could break her
With one hand split her in two

But the reason that we love him
Is a hope he don't want to
Is a hope he don't want to

And can you find for me a higher thing?
So I can love he who will not fight for me
Cause I do not believe
Believe that I love he
So fight for me, think and feel for me

No I do not love thee, but believe that I love you
But believe that I love you

And when you're drinking alone
No it's bad for my soul
Took him back to a year ago
Throwing stones at my window

Ask me demon
To hear you moaning on
Yes I heard the songs
Like bullets to me
Put a calm in me
Knowing it was he
Who was fucking crazy

You're young and you're stable
Stand up to your labour

The "is a hope" part reminds me of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's song "I See A Darkness. "Is a hope that somehow you, you can save me from this darkness." Laura Marling has said that she is inspired by that song in this interview here. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/features/laura-marling--sweet-taste-of-success-for-a-shy-songstress-2218048.html

"The first time she heard Bonnie "Prince" Billy's "I See a Darkness" was a momentous occasion and a turning point for her songwriting. "It was like a shock to the system," she told an interviewer. 'It was almost as if I shouldn't have been listening to it, as if I was invading his emotions.'"

Maybe this song is in a way inspired by that.

This is such a brilliant song, damn shame it won't be on her next album. :'(

The second last verse is obviously a reference to Noah & the Whale's album all about her. "Yes I heard the songs, like bullets to me" She's obviously hurt by the fact he has an entire album about her
