Those lines refer to the way religion (Christianity in particular) has this nasty habit of controlling people by instilling the fear of this almighty being that will set you aflame for all eternity if you dont do exactly as his doctrine teaches.
To overtake your mind (control you, make you do as I choose) And multiply your fears of me (Threats of Hell, purgatory, hates, whatever) God, does this familiar? (Because it's exactly what he does)
