The Pact (I'll Be Your Fever) Lyrics

Do what you did yesterday, go on repeating
'cos my heart's only on fire when you are the teacher
You take the torch and I, follow the leader
You'd be my master and I'll be your fever

You told me your past was taken by thieves
Since then you've been running in search of reliefs
You don't know when it's coming, I don't know either
You'd be my master and I'll be your fever

The angels are singing, words written for you
Trumpets are telling of your beauty and truth
But you've been working it out for yourself like some over-achiever
So just be my master and I'll be your fever

But you knew this is all I need, no more or no less
Your highness I bow to thee and to thee this I confess
I was lost in a forest but now I'm a believer
So you'd be my master and I'll be your fever

So do what you did yesterday go on repeating
'cos my heart's only on fire when you are the teacher
You take the torch and I, follow the leader
You'd be my master and I'll be your fever
You'd be my master and I'll be your fever
You'd be my master and I'll be your fever

Is this song about someone he loves and he hoping she'll show him the way towards the future yet doesnt know what to think or believe? He's inspired yet feels like he needs to be guided. Is it a lover, or a teacher or a parent?

I love this song and the entire album, too. This guy reminds me of a mixture of other great singer-songwriters like Conor Oberst and Elvis Perkins. One of the best albums of 2010.

The woman lacks self-esteem in some ways; it was "taken by thieves." She's searching for herself. He sees all the potential in her -- her beauty, strength, character. He wants her to allow their relationship to take on a certain type of partnership. He'll ignite her "fire" (fever), and she'll become the woman she's meant to be (the master).

That, or they just want to role-play. ;0

I know it looks like a gospel song but Conor said he's agnostic (or atheist) so this music isn't about God (or it was written when he was still in doubt perhaps), also in the same album there's "Ship Of Promises" which pretty much describes atheist experience - more in {Awayland}. I've seen other atheist using Christian metaphors and even word God (The Cardigans - Holy Love) so that wouldn't be uncommon.
