For a long long time
I've been in pieces
In the corner of a room
In an endless afternoon

For a long long time
I've been in pieces
For a long long time
I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces

There is a way down
That I wish I had not found
You just split yourself in two
One for them and one for you
One for them and one for you

For a long long time
I've been in pieces
All the words I mean to say
They never come out the right way
And there are things that I could tell you
But they'll never come out the right way
And there are sides that I could show you
But they'll never come out the right way
Never come out the right way
Never come out the right way
Never come out the right way
Cause I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces
I've been in pieces

Great song on a great album. The lines "You just split yourself in two/One for them and one for you" are about the difference between how you see yourself and how you present yourself to others (feels connected to That Day) -- you can only remain in pieces for so long until everything comes apart in chaos, which happens to Conor and all the instruments by the end of the song.

is it just me or do people read into things to much haha

being in peices is refering to the frustration of not being able to express yourself properally - ENTIRELY to other people

    • in a way so that they get you. haha not the most poetic explanation, but ya get me.

"There is a way down That I wish I had not found You just split yourself in two One for them and one for you"

: it is just to hard to show people who you are completely and totally it is just to frustrating trying to make other people understand who you TRULY are. cause they never realy get it. sooo. split your self in two, one for them and one for you. dont think i need to explain that one.

Definitely about a break up, the way he keeps repeating that he has been in pieces until eventually his pain is too much to relate in mere words and all he can do is howl like a wolf! Gives me shivers every time and anyone who has been in love and lost that love can relate to that pain. This artist will go so far in life, he will "be counted among men" in fact....

To me the howling and chaos of instruments represents the moment he 'becomes a jackal'. I think the whole album is about the change of a person from when they are like the start of this song ( I've been in pieces) to becoming a ruthless person that doesn't care what people think.

There's more to it than that but thats the general idea in my opinion.

It seems to me to be about drug abuse.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
