self vs self revision Lyrics
If I struggle a lifetime
What would my body be?
An empty shell
On what a demon fed
Could be a heavy burden
to stay true to your words
Speak up
I wanna silence everything
We forgot no plan
Doesn't mean that I get what I want for free
We forgot no meaning
Would you force me to a place where I make sense?
'Cause nothing lasts forever
How do I get home?
Everything revolves around me
If I can't find myself?
It's so completely fake
How do I get home?
Everything revolves around me
If even you can't help?
Dark nights on my soul
I deny failure
I ignite
Woe is on my misery
She wins all their eyes
Realize what they find's not fate
This is not me, this is me
So if I struggle a lifetime
What good would that do?
We forgot a plan
Doesn't have to stop the feeling inside
If I do make sense
Would you drag me down?
'Cause nothing lasts forever
How do I get home?
Everything revolves around me
If I can't find myself?
It's so completely fake
How do I get home?
Everything revolves around me
If even you can't help?
Dark nights on my soul
What would my body be?
An empty shell
On what a demon fed
to stay true to your words
Speak up

I actually prefer this style when it comes to Pendulum. It's great to hear something heavier from them, but that may also be because I'm a fan of In Flames. Both voices go incredibly well together, with the contrast of the screaming and clear vocals. I agree, the music leans more towards In Flame's style, but that doesn't mean the music is bad. It's amazing, and it's a song that really pumps you up--despite the lyrics.
As for the song meaning--which this site if FOR--I'm not quite sure what the meaning could be. But 'nothing lasts forever' gives it a more pessimistic feel rather than a positive one. Maybe this song is about losing who you are and not knowing what to do about it. He seems to be questioning himself quite a fair bit in this, and someone else, too. Who that could be is a mystery. But either way, I feel this song is about not being able to figure out who or what to do with yourself. Never feeling right and not knowing how to get back to how things were before.
Amazing song, and In Flames was a downright hit for Pendulum. I'm betting many metal fans are loving this one. :D And I'm hoping to hear more like this [music-wise] from their next album.
Isn't it "If I got no meaning" not "we forgot no meaning" that makes no sense...
you're right.
you're right.
Rather than coming across as a collaboration between Pendulum and In Flames, "Self vs Self" simply sounds like an In Flames track with Rob singing a little on it - and, as such, it doesn't fit with the other songs on "Immersion" ... so I don't like it for that reason. :x
I disagree. In Flames drummer sounds nothing like Pendulum's. The percussion is distinctly drum and bass yet metal at the same time. I think it blends beautifully.

Pendulum sure reached out on a limb with this one, and it surprised me the first time listening through the disc. In Flames does show through a bit more in this song, I agree, but saying Pendulum's influence isn't there just merits a deeper listen to both bands' catalogues for their cues. They're both there.

While I agree that it sounds more In Flames than it does Pendulum, I think the inclusion of this track was right on the money.

While many (and many more) may disagree, drum and bass shares very little difference between In Flames style metal. Sure, there's a few more guitars, but the pace and beat is very much the same.

I thought having In Flames was so random. I really don't like the screaming type, and I didn't think Pendulum was into that either. The only part I like in this song is when Rob sings. I usually fast forward to that part because it's good.
@padme0723 I think it's fair to say that that's a rather inFLAMMATORY comment XD
