Abuse Lyrics

changing
a phone call
sustaining
a downfall
division
decisive
the outcome made without you

to rise up
to stand against
the blue skies
white picket fence
the driver
was driving you
no longer
won't see it through

you're flying
right over
the painting
get over
an old scar
another separation
don't bother

the distance
you're gaining ground
your placement
in lost and found
you're going
i'm getting stuck
i'm trying
you're giving up

so what's the outcome, what's the use?
subject yourself to this abuse
(2x)

turning
a favor
recurrent
behavior
departure
the drama's always ever so familiar

your feeling
of helplessness
to salvage
this fucking mess
within you
to be alone
continue
the one i own

so what's the outcome, what's the use?
subject yourself to this abuse
(8x)

I might need a hand with this one. I think I have most of it but these guys use a LOT of heavy vocal effects.

... and now for an interpretation:

I'm sure my own personal experience is coloring this but it's what I hear when I hear this song.

It's about someone who got into a relationship because of outside pressure: it just seemed like what everyone expected, so it was done. From the outside, everything looked ok but the relationship was a living hell. Not so much physical abuse but still bad for everyone involved.

Over time, the relationship started falling apart at the seams. At some point, someone started to think "So what's the outcome, what's the use? Why am I doing this?"

That's what the second verse is all about. "To rise up, to stand against, the blue skies, white picket fence." Everyone thought it was perfect but someone had to take a stand and end things ... to get up and start over.

In the end, this is a really powerful song. It's encouraging for the person who had to end things. Even with "your feeling of helplessness to salvage this fucking mess," it's still "within you to be alone."
