I just got the 2011 vinyl reissue with lyrics included. This from the insert included:

Ten, nine, Nick, are we right in front of you? Eight, Mike anytime, Seven, six, I heard you got to the top this year. Five, four, it only took twenty-five years. Three, two, go head! Aw...(clapping) Woohoo! Peter, you did do well. Eh, no, I was just clearing my throat. Hahahaha... your father... sure...

Alles Vergängliche ist nur ein Gleichnis. How do you do? Welcome to the human race. You're a mess.

I was born on the day that music died The essence and the accidents, The tin and the tungsten, yes, baroness, Take a rid downtown and stay warm by the fire.

Every time we come here we tend to make announcement, (Yeah?...) and this June, Erica and myself are going to have a little baby.

(applause, laughter) Your father pointed out that you said ca-ca.

I was born on the day that music died The essence and the accidents, The tin and the tungsten, yes baroness, Take a ride downtown and stay warm by the fire. I know how to go but I don't know how to steer, The Buddha and the Dharma and the Santa Maria, Take a ride downtown and stay warm by the fire, I was born on the day that music died

This bums me out, at least make up some lyrics for the song. Question marks don't do anything for anybody except tell them you don't know what the lyrics are. Why would we look at this if we can't even pretend to know what he's singing?

I'm well aware that my lyrics are not 100% accurate but at least they're not a bunch of question marks. Honestly, the background talking and stuff shouldn't even be in there cause they're NOT LYRICS. This is my interpretation of the lyrics:

I was born on the day the music died In essence and in excellence You can get it any time so yes but unless You can ride downtown and stay warm by the fire

I was born on the day the music died In essence and in excellence You can get it any time so yes but unless You can ride downtown and stay warm by the fire

I know where to go but I don't know where to stand Moving in boredom but I'm sitting around You can hop on down and stay warm by the fire I was born on the day the music died

Those lyrics look pretty good to me, rhyserpeacer. I disagree, though, that the samples shouldn't be listed. There are plenty of songs, by the Books and others, that choose to make their statements through a series of edited samples rather than re-writing and re-stating them. The words in the samples may just be incidental--maybe they were only used because they sounded nice--but they can also just as easily be as important to the song as any sung lyrics.

I think in general it's about how family is the most important thing in life, with the samples of their family at thanksgiving, and my brain translates the title to mean that they are our foundation and everything we have is because of them.
