New Morning Lyrics

I dont give a damn about the castle on the hill
All the gold that we could eat, or the horse you had for sale
No I'm getting kinda rich on the side of any soul alive

I dont give a damn if I'm running from the law
When my moneys not enough and they come and take it all
No I'm getting kinda rich on the side of any soul alive

Have you heard my Mona Lisa
Have you heard who you are
Your a new morning
Your a new morning

Wanna be ok when I'm sitting here alone
Not just thinking of the ways that I could have done it wrong
No I'm getting kinda rich on the side of any soul alive

Have you heard the Mona Lisa
Have you heard who you are
Your a new moring
Your a new morning
Your a new morning
Now, your a new morning now

Have you heard my Mona Lisa
Have you heard who you are
Your a new morning
Your a new morning
Your a new morning
Now, your a new morning now

It's a start of realization that material things are not what makes a life but seeing the beauty that surrounds and enrich you.

This song is beautiful! And I agree that it is about appreciating the real things in life.

i think this songs about waking up and living life the way its meant to be lived. be free, don't let money or society tell you what to appreciate or how to act. experience things that move your soul. i think the line, "have you heard the mona lisa?" is trying to explain that you don't need to experience beautiful things the way people expect you to. (i.e. using the word "heard" instead of "seen") wake up and live your life.

I think the last line of the verse is actually slightly wrong: I think it's: 'No I'm getting kinda rich on the SIGHT of any soul alive'.

Again in the first verse: I don't give a damn about the castle on the hill, OR the gold that we could eat, or the horse you had for sale.

He's referencing the difference between those who put all their hopes in material things ('castles on hills', owning horses, etc...). Referencing the fact that you can't eat gold. All he needs to see a person truly living, truly being alive.

I would agree with frojabotta about the 'hearing' not 'seeing' the Mona Lisa, and the ability to wake up and live life to the full.

My Opinion

sure the meaning of the song may be great, and the sound of the song is beautiful. but these lyrics are atrocious. how the hell do you eat gold? what kind of metaphor is that? you don't eat gold unless it's like flaked upon some ice cream. and how's selling a horse even remotely related to the hyperbole of having a castle on the hill? he doesn't care about dreaming about castles on hills, but doesn't care that his friend is so poor that they're selling a horse. What? and is he getting rich on the side, or is he getting rich on the side of souls. where exactly is the side of a soul? is it to the left of the top or is he traveling with all alive souls that are also getting rich?

Then apparently he's broke, but getting money through sides of souls again. Which would be nice if we knew that really saved him from the government/police.

then my biggest problem with it, is you don't hear pictures. you can't hear pictures. they don't talk to you. the only way to do this is with considerable doses of ketamine. then you could taste some purple. of course live your life the way you want, but basing a song chorus on the impossibility of crossing sensations in the brain so visual perceptions are heard? Again, I agree, it's a great message if that was what it was, but you can't fucking hear pictures.

and it is you're, not your. the metaphor that you can do whatever you want as you're a new morning is kind of cool and sounds nice, until he hangs on the ing for 5 extra seconds. you're a new morn ing ing ing ing ing ing ing ing. use silence, it's more powerful.

and the last verse is apparently contradicting the first verse where he doesn't give a damn about great castles, so it's like he's okay with whatever. and the second verse where he doesn't give a damn about running from the law. and this third verse goes into how lonely he actually he is as he's ruminating about loneliness and how he's done wrong--oh wait, he's getting rich on the sides of souls in the same verse even though he's so lonely. and looking at it again, wanting to be ok infers sadness, and then thinking of the ways that you could have done wrong would mean that he did it right. So he wants to be ok (regret) when he thinks of ways he Could have done it wrong (didn't do anything wrong) so is he regretting right actions? oh well, it's okay because he's getting rich on the passenger seat of not dead souls.

now finish the song with the actually beautiful, rare ascending line with ascending chords and the catchy one note riff. I do not have a problem with the music. but abstract lyrics don't work in a pop song, and not on the climax of a song. and yes, you do have to experience pictures with vision. or touch, if you're blind.

My Opinion

Way to be close minded as shit zatch. This song is about seeing everything everything from a different point of view. Which is EXACTLY what you didn't do to this song. It's people like you who don't understand music. Except it for what it is, a good song.

Accept, not except. I typed it wrong in my fury.

@zatch17 im pretty sure they werent thinking of you when they wrote these lyrics....your opinion is fine but seriously if you like the music and not the lyrics....how about you go listen to an instumental and stop leaving nasty comments...alpha rev new what the song meant to them when they wrote it...not you! thnx :)
