Bring It On Lyrics

My queen of the Bronx
Blue eyes and spitfire
I saw you walking back and forth
About another boy
Thinking that you may want to leave

So give me the fevers that just won't break
And give me the children you don't want to raise
And tell me about the cool
He sings to you in those songs
If it's better than my love
Then bring it on

And take it back out to the streets
Where you know you used to be
For the Romeos uptown
If I bring you down
And you're tired of those vows
And you're really walking out

So give me the fevers that just won't break
And give me the children you don't want to raise
And tell me about the cool
He sings to you in those songs
If it's better than my love
Baby, bring it on
Oh, bring it on

Stop clicking your red heels and wishing for home
I'm hearing that he tells you he can read your palms
Is he better than my love
Better than my love
Is he better than my love
Better than my love
So I found the letters with the reasons to things
You've been feeling
That he says they'll never know
And you say the night just got too cold
Well everybody's cold
Who's gonna keep my baby warm
Who's gonna keep my baby warm
When everybody goes

So give me the fevers that just won't break
And give me the children you don't want to raise
And tell me about the cool
He sings to you in those songs
If it's better than my love

Well then wait a minute, wait a minute
Wasn't I good to you
Wait a minute, wait a minute
Wasn't I good to you
Wait a minute, wait a minute
You don't know what's good for you

So give me the fevers that just won't break
And give me the children you don't want to raise
And tell me about the cool
He sings to you in those songs
You've been baby for so long
Come on, bring it on
Oh, bring it on

Stop clicking your red heels and wishing for home
I'm hearing that he tells you he can read your palms
If he's better than my love
If he's better than my love
If he's better than my love
Better than my love
If he's better than my love
If he's better than my love
Then go on, take it all

Please do yourselves a favor and take a minute or two to listen to the acoustic version Brian recently did.

There's no concrete evidence to support my point, so I can't call it a theory, but one of the first impressions I had when I heard this song was that it's a prequel to "Great Expectations" with the same character narrating and singing about the "first wife" he dreams about in "Great Expectations."

yeah i thought that too... does anyone know about Brian Fallon's personal life? Was he divorced from a someone he married when he was young because alot of his lyrics seem to suggest that...

I heard in an interview, that the lyrics in 59' sound (album) were mostly nostalgic where as the lyrics from this album were all about the here and now, so im not so sure if its a pre-lude to great expectations. It could still b about a relationship that went wrong (due to the negativity towards her state of mind in the relationship) but he still loves her so he wants to take her pain away (i.e, gimmie the fevers that just wont break, gimmie the children u dont wanna raise)?

Brian Fallon has never been divorced. In Great Expectations "first wife" is just referring to a past relationship with someone that was much like a marriage. You know, when you're young and in love and you think you're going to be with someone forever... that kind of thing. :)

Great song indeed. I do believe it's "you found the bandages inside the band" though.

I meant to post that under Boxer... hehe.

Indeed a fantastic song.

Seems very personal to me. Split with my finacee a year ago and she's with someone new now. She has my two young kids, I's love to "take the children you don't want to raise"

What is "the cool". Seems to be referenced in a lot of GA songs.

I see your a Dee's fan! I'm in the 19's. Anyway, I think the 'cool' is the guy who's that bit better than you. I'm not sure, but that's what it seems like.

The Cool refers to Miles Davis and 1950s jazz that grew out of NYC.

For this part:

"Well then wait a minute, wait a minute Was he not good to you"

I believe it actually should say "Wasn't I good to you".

Lyric Correction

In the song book it acctually says, "You Don't Know What's good for you"

in one verse it is "You dont know whts good for you" but in another its alo "was he not good to you"

"the cool" that they often refer to is Miles Davis (and his cool jazz). Not sure how it relates to this song, though.

"the cool" are the words that the guy she cheated on the narrarator with made her go to him and leave the narrarator. that's why the line is followed with "if it's better than my love..." he's challenging ("bring it on") if what the new guy is saying/providing for her is better than what the narrarator gave her.

"the cool" is acctually a re-occuring refference in gaslight anthem albums, like it thier last 1 thier was a song "miles davis and the cool" which was a refference basicly to Miles Davis and his cool cool jazz and the feeling of having "the cool" with you. So Brian sayin "and tell me about the cool, that he sings you in those songs, if its better then my love" could be Brian askin the lady to tell him about that feeling miles davis gives her, if Miles Davis's music is better then his love........

this song is about being confident when the person you are with is thinking about leaving. hes confident that even though some guy trying to be romantic is trying to win her he doesn't care. even if she leaves he wont care because that's her loss.

anyone notice the "wait a minute, wait a minute" part sounds a lot like the song, "please mr. postman"? i'm mostly familiar with the beatles cover, but i know it was originally by the marvelettes.

When I first heard this song, I thought it was from the point of view of the other man trying to convince her to leave. After seeing the official video and reading the lyrics more closely, it's obviously the man she's married to. But sometimes I can still see it from both POVs.

With the married man, it's really, really sad, especially the acoustic version. I love it cause it feels brutal and honest, and confident that she won't leave but at the same time second-guessing himself near the end.

With the other man, it's more yearning. It also sounds confident in that cocky way that people get when they think they can take someone away. He's probably been her best friend for a while and gets to hear her complaints about the marriage, "tired of those vows." He wants to "take it back out on the streets where you know you used to be," because maybe she's changed ever since marrying the guy, and he wants to remind her who she is and that she should be with him. Maybe they've been together before. "Stop clicking your red heels and wishing for home," could be that she's doubting herself and realizing she doesn't want to cheat.

I don't which interpretation I like better.
