Frozen Creek (Album version) Lyrics

Upon a pebble driveway
There sits a house
And it's the loneliest place
I haven't spend much time there
It wasn't alowed
It just didn't feel right

Cos it's all built upon a burial ground
It just doesn't feel right
It just doesn't feel right

On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
It's where it flows through me
On top the frozen creek
Ohhh

If I open both of my eyes
I still see an empty space
So empty
But if I keep them closed
Then there's still a chance
Something is out there

Cos it's all built upon a burial ground
It just doesn't feel right
It just doesn't feel right

On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
It's where it flows through me
On top the frozen creek
Ohhh

I made a promise to you long ago
I'd do the the best that I can
I'd try to keep it
I made a promise to you long ago
That I'd do anything to keep this home

On top the frozen creek
I would love to take you there
It's where it flows through me
On top the frozen creek
Ohhh

I would love to take you there
I would love to take you there
I would love to take you

Anthony Green said in Fords, NJ that this song was about the house they recorded in. Plain and Simple.

This song is sorta a giant metaphor for a past relationship. Possibly the same relationships discussed in "I felt free",and "Imaginary Enemy".

"Upon a pebble driveway There sits a house And it's the loneliest place I haven't spend much time there It wasn't alowed It just didn't feel right"

  • "pebble driveway" could mean a rocky path towards the old "house" or relationship. "I haven't spend much time there, it wasn't allowed, it just didn't feel right" is refers to not thinking about the past relationship because it hurt too much or it felt sour internally.

"Cos it's all built upon a burial ground It just doesn't feel right It just doesn't feel right

On top the frozen creek I would love to take you there It's where it flows through me On top the frozen creek Ohhh"

  • "burial ground" means the past, old lives, the death of the relationship lies under the "house". "It just didn't feel right", hurt too much, the timing was off to ever go back. "On top the frozen creek" Where the love used to flow has now frozen, there isn't any flame or passion left. "I would love to take you there It's where it flows through me" He/she would like to go back and revisit the relationship.

"If I open both of my eyes I still see an empty space So empty But if I keep them closed Then there's still a chance"

-"If I open both my eyes I still see an empty space, so empty" In reality the person knows there is nothing left of the relationship, only empty feelings are left over from the past relationship. "But if I keep them closed then there's still a chance" However if they close their eyes and imagine maybe there is still a chance to salvage in the past relationship or make things better with the other person so they can retain the relationship.

"I made a promise to you long ago I'd do the the best that I can I'd try to keep it I made a promise to you long ago That I'd do anything to keep this home"

-The person made promises to keep up with the relationship so it wouldn't turn to shit. "I'd try to keep it, i made a promise to you long ago that i'd do anthing to keep this home" The girl/guy tried to keep the promise that they wouldn't let the relationship go if things were maybe bad or wouldn't work out because the other person means so much to them, so did the relationship.

"I would love to take you there I would love to take you there I would love to take you"

-They would love to go back to the relationship and would "love" to love again because the relationship they used to have was the most important thing in the past.

I think the song ends with the protagonist giving up on their false hope of starting up a relationship with their ex partner. False hopes and wishful thinking is basically what this song talks about. Quite errie song and very creative.

Eventho Anthony said that this song is about "the house they recorded this song in" I still love ur opinion more! <3 I agree with viewpoint of this song <3 Love it so much! ^^ coz.. what if its the point.. maybe he creates songs that suits all ? ^^

I definitely think of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind everytime I listen to this. It was actually my first thought when I just saw the title for the first time.

I think breathe's interpretation is too deep and analytical. Like I said before him, its about the house they recorded in. Based from interviews and such, Anthony had a psychologically traumatic event occur (I believe it was his wife having a miscarriage). He then left for close to a month. He probably wanted her there, hell I would want my wife/girlfriend with me if something like that happened. He even has been quoted saying that he was "unsure whether the band would make it through this."
