Me and My Hand Lyrics

(Vagina)
(1-2-3-4)
Me and my hand,
We've been together
Since I was born,
Since I was in the world.
Seen the light go out,
Seen light come in
Me and my hand,
My true best friend
And my love,
My love -
Oh, my hand
I've gotta give it up,
I always love you.

Haha, does it REALLY say vagina at the beginning?!

it honestly does. it's at like 0:01 if you turn it up past even medium volume.

Well it's more like someone yelling "DUDE!" then someone saying "Va-Vagina" into the mic as if to sound-check, but yes, it's there albeit very quiet.

it doesn't say vagina at all. Kevin Drew said in a recent interview on pitchfork: "At the beginning of the song, I say, "We do it for Johnny," which is also one of the greatest quotes of our generation from Matt Dillon in The Outsiders. I love that fuckin' movie."

My favourite track off FRR. Just so much passion, emotion and feeling in this song. I love the vocals. I love this song.

Immediately listening the song strikes me as being about masturbation, or just a direct euphemism about sex, but the song could easily be interrupted for whatever you want...I think by Kevin Drew not explicitly putting any innuendos (beyond the word hand) in the song it is meant to be taken by the listener however they want. In a recent interview with pitchfork Kevin said this:

KD: At the beginning of the song, I say, "We do it for Johnny," which is also one of the greatest quotes of our generation from Matt Dillon in The Outsiders. I love that fuckin' movie.

I can twist that song any way I want. Like, it could be about a guy who's retiring from war who's decided he won't destroy anymore even though he's got such a passion to do that. Or I can slide into being a love song for my hand. I've got it covered on all ends. Just depends on who I'm chatting with. I told another interviewer it's a song about a dick and Dick Cheney-- I got the double-dick going on.

Pitchfork: I thought it may be about, um, admitting your indulgences.

KD: Like sex? I see it that way, too. If you really think about it, your hand has done so many things for you your whole life. I like the indulgence aspect because I say, "I gotta give it up," in the song. I'm a full-on addict-- I indulge in a lot on a lot of things.

To me the song is about a lot of things: pot, lustful motives, egotistical ideas....anything negative I used to think about without a desire for bettering myself or change...I can still smoke pot and try to make things better, as I can with a lustful motive (assuming I want to make a positive relationship with the person). This record is amazing, this song is insightful...let's love each other and say sorry.
