i think this song is about how he was at a bar and got drunk (got caught runnin up a tab) and he was too drunk to drive home so he had to take a cab. (couldn't drive home so i had to take a cab) he meets the girl who hes sharing the cab with and even though they start having a fling, he did something stupid to her because he was too drunk. (but the alcohol made its way down;she was the last thing that i saw last night before i hit the ground) so basically he liked her but missed his chance because it was the alcohol talking
I'm surprised that there aren't more comments on this song. It's my absolute favorite from their new album. The song is basically out there in the open, not too hard to understand. I love how the lyrics sort of tell a story of how maybe he met the girl one night and then later on, they continued having a relationship but he never quite got over how once he lost her, he couldn't have her anymore. The third verse is the only one that I'm sort of questioning. Is it that the girl came back to marry the guy in the song or she married someone else and came back after she realized it wasn't right?
Meaning straight up, and this is my favorite song of B&W and the acoustic version is just awesome, better in my opinion. I believe that when he says the girl comes back, it's because she already had a life build up, but if he needed a friend, she would be there, but not like before, that's my take anyways.
