Heartbeat Song Lyrics
When we meet i listen to your heartbeat
I can hear the rhythm and the tone
Every time i listen to me heart
Its like a cartwheel in my head but my legs are made of lead
Your heartbeat song, its good but its not the one
Were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
When we speak i find it hard to think straight
Especially when there’s no one else around
When we touch its impossible to concentrate
Bright lights everywhere, like i’m floating in the air
Your heartbeat song, its good but its not the one
Were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
Your heartbeat song, its good but its not the one
Were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
But i still want to sing with you
If you care, we can share sometime
If we spare ourselves, tonight
When we meet i listen to your heartbeat
I can hear the rhythm and the tone
Every time i listen to me heart
Its like a cartwheel in my head but my legs are made of lead
When we speak i find it hard to think straight
Especially when there’s no one else around
When we touch its impossible to concentrate
Bright lights everywhere, like i’m floating in the air
Your heartbeat song, its good but its not the one
were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
Your heartbeat song, its good but its not the one
were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
Still want to sing with you
Still want to sing with you
I still want to sing with you
I can hear the rhythm and the tone
Every time i listen to me heart
Its like a cartwheel in my head but my legs are made of lead
Were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
Especially when there’s no one else around
When we touch its impossible to concentrate
Bright lights everywhere, like i’m floating in the air
Were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
Were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
But i still want to sing with you

When we touch its impossible to concentrate
Bright lights everywhere, like i’m floating in the air

were singing out of tune, but i still want to sing with you
Still want to sing with you
Still want to sing with you
I still want to sing with you

I respectfully disagree, and I'm pretty surprised no one else has commented on this one. Not even to make the point I'm about to make, but just in general.
I think that there's a significant other or person of interest in his life. He has some sort of feelings for them, but he just knows that this person isn't "the one." Hence "your heartbeat song; it's good but it's not the one." And as I interpret it, this isn't because of fighting or disagreements or falling out; he just KNOWS that this isn't the right person for him. It's that feeling that he describes so well as just being "out of tune" with another person. But the song is about how although he knows deep down that this person isn't perfect for him and that there's no significant future for them being together, he still wants to stay with them (or as he puts it, "sing" with them). The fact that this relationship isn't the everlasting kind that so many people are looking for doesn't change the fact that he's happy with this other person.
Love it.
Meaning should be fairly obvious. It's about falling in love with someone and all the feeling that go along with that.
I really dig the line about "singing out of tune". It threw me for a loop the first time I heard it, but I realized it's meant that they're singing out of tune to something on the radio, and it's not the same as the "heartbeat song", but he still want to sing with them anyway.
I agree with mkay.
Also: do you think the line 'it's good but it's not the one' is a direct reference to 8os/90s quiz show Catch Phrase? Roy Walker always used to say "Ah that's a good answer but it's not the one". Or am I reading too much into it?
