Sleep Means Sleeping Lyrics

(Wake up
You know, you are
Wake up
Hang on)

Just pour
Some concrete in my bones
So I can feel whole again

And people in this town
Talk with their tongues hanging out
So they could tell us how to be just like them

And do you know why
I can't sleep at night
When it's raining down your face

So I wake up
And I fall down
'Cause I can't live a life without you by my side

And do you know why I'm here?
Can you feel my fears?
Do you know I will say what you always wanted?

Yeah you know why I'm here
You can feel my fears
Oh you know I would say what you always wanted

It's you that helps me sleep at night
It's you that helps me sleep at night
Night, at night...

If lightning strikes this place again,
I'll forget what I would say to you

I really like this song...who's the woman that is singing with Ace? His wife?

Robin Gazzara plays keyboard and sings vocals, not his wife.

it seems to be about how two people have such a deep emotional connection that its almost haunting. it keeps them both up at night. its like one person has taken away a chunk of the other, so that they are no longer whole. the other is kind of a puppet master, who forces the speaker to say what the other wants them to say. The speaker seems to like the other though, and is afraid to break the grip that the other has on them because it may end their friend/relationship. The speaker is waiting for some sign as to what he should do (lightning striking the same place twice).

I love this song, but its all very confusing, it makes me go around in circles, I can't really get a firm grasp on its meaning. Maybe this was done on purpose?

oh, or maybe its got something to do with his baby, keeping him up all night with crying?

My thoughts:

its got to be about some relationship, romantic I think. Interesting about the baby with the tinkle xylophone instrument.

The 'do you know my fears' section always gets me up thinking he's going to ask this person about their relationship, maybe one that existed in the past and he realizes he can't live without.

What really strikes me as odd is the fourth to fifth stanza:

'i can't sleep without you........ I wake up and fall down

The proximity of those two seem too purposeful.

Concrete to fill in bones is a great example of OP's first meaning....
