In the middle of the night, I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown
But I'd be yours if you'd be mine

Stretch out my life and pick the seams out
Take what you like, but close my ears and eyes
Watch me stumble over and over

I have done wrong, you build your tower
But call me home and I will build a throne
And wash my eyes out never again

But love the one you hold
And I'll be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

Skin too tight and eyes like marbles
You spin me high, so watch me as I glide
Before I tumble homeward, homeward

I know I tried, I was not stable
Flawed by pride, I miss my sanguine eyes
So hold my hands up, breathe in and breathe out

So love the one you hold
And I'll be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

And in the middle of the night, I may watch you go
There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown
There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown
You may not trust the promises of the change I'll show
But I'd be yours if you'd be mine

So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

So love the one you hold
And I will be your goal
To have and to hold
A lover of the light

    My Interpretation

In the middle of the night, I may watch you go There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown But I'd be yours if you'll be mine

I think this song is about a friends-with-benefits situation. He watches her leave in the middle of the night after they've hooked up. He has built up these strong feeling or 'walls' towards her but at the end of the night, they are meaningless. He doesn't find comfort in the shadows thrown either (their shadowy figures in the dimly lit room.)

Stretch out my life and pick the seams out Take what you like, but close my ears and eyes Watch me stumble over and over

He falls apart without her. It is as though he is made of cloth and she is making him come undone. Maybe this guy was a "player" in the past and its his first time being in a situation where he is not the one in control. "Take what you'd like." He is surrendering to her. They keep hooking up over and over again.

I had done wrong, so build your tower But call me home and I will build a throne And wash my eyes out never again

This guy, being the player that he is, has done this same routine with girls in the past and she knows that. He is telling her that he understands why she shouldn't trust him. But, if they make their relationship public (call me home), he'll treat her like a queen basically. He won't treat her like he's treated all the girls in his past.

But love the one you hold And I'll be your goal To have and to hold A lover of the light

Skin too tight and eyes like marbles You spin me high so watch me as I glide Before I tumble homeward, homeward

She is young and hold no romantic emotions towards him. She makes him so happy when they are together but when the sex is over, he crashes back to reality.

I know I've tried, I was not stable And flawed by pride, I miss my sanguine eyes So hold my hands up . . . breathe in and breathe out

He's tried to have a relationship with her before but he was not ready. he was immature and slept around with other girls (flawed by pride).

And in the middle of the night, I may watch you go There'll be no value in the strength of walls that I have grown There'll be no comfort in the shade of the shadows thrown You may not trust the promises of the change I'll show But I'd be yours if you'd be mine

He promises her change from his old womanizer ways.

So love the one you hold And I'll will be your goal To have and to hold A lover of the light

They hold each other at night and he is telling her to give him a chance and make their relationship more than just sex.

That's what this song means to me.

Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.
