I don't think words can describe this song, none of my babbling and obnoxiously long word use could do it justice. And yet I still comment. Because this song is just so heart-shatteringly beautiful. Honestly, I'm writing this comment right now listening to the song and I am close to tears. If I start crying I'm not going to be able to stop. This song is just one of those rare kinds that makes you happy to be living in that moment. I think I can feel my heart caving in...

The song appeared on their album takk - which means "thank you" there a lot of topics going on the album about growing, preserving and childhood

You are a fox you, you - in the air

in the air, yes in the air in the air, yes

you glide oh, oh peace oh no oh no, yes oh no oh no, yes

A lost seafarer Alive Has returned home A lost seafarer Alive Has returned home a diver comes

I think the lyrics are about the hero's journey, who travels into the unknown far from home or into his subconsciousness(the sea)

The Fox could mean Fylgja which is a female supernatural being in old norse. It is believed that these spirits take the form of animals like foxes, bears etc. and accompany the newborn as protective spirit aswell as sealing their fate to the world.

Only when the chosen person dies, they will reveal themself in their human female form equaling that of the valkyrie and the human spellbound by their dreadful appearance will die. The spirit will then step on their grave and set the person with their love free taking him/her up to valhall.

In the text from sigur ròs the person is alive but a diver, which is maybe connected to his/her home/inner universe again.

@d0lphin it's not "oh no, yes" ... bot alein - lonesome

As to what this song means, my 1st instinct was that it represents a psychedelic trip that starts nicely but then suddenly takes a turn for the worse. A prolonged struggle with one's own mind, before finally getting a grip on it and knowing you will ultimately survive it.

That said it could just as well be an attempt to capture an drama of an anxiety attack.

Or indeed actually being lost at sea & caught in a storm as the title implies.
