The song is about the record label. They were dropped from Capitol Records, and this song is just about the band, the fans, etc. They're "just another number, dropped for better value". The chorus "listen to the end" line is pretty self explanatory. The song is saying that they want fans of the music, to hell with labels who don't care about different music (such as Capitol who mislabeled the band as "metal"). The "let me lie some more" line is a reference to music that was persuaded by Capitol. They were told to alter songs just for singles and sales. The jab at Capitol is made most evident by "Such a pleading case that I made, Convinced them we could do again what we do back then but even better tomorrow", referencing the sales of Vol. 1 and Vol. II and the sales numbers they had. It could also be the transition from Capitol to Amusement and J. Loren saying "we can sale as well as we did with Vol. 1 and Vol. II and even do better".
I can see the misrepresentation of the song being about how bad the world is, based off the first verse. But notice "underneath my eyelids", meaning, in J. Loren's head. He has all this in him. Music is his release, that is obvious. This song is about the band and Capitol records. I will look for something more concrete, but I think it is fairly obvious if you REALLY look at the lyrics and listen to it. Very much a song like Et Al and Thank You For Listening.
