Tribalism Lyrics
Shikari was a third generation Aztec
His tribe accepting human reality
It was the basis of their ability to sustain with humble tranquility
But civilisations encouraged religions which in turn introduced depravity
And that was as big a realisation as when my boy Newton discovered gravity
'Cause it transformed the way we bounce about on a daily basis
Not content with a doubt about the knowledge of who's up there
Quick! Give him a name, a trident, and a chair, sharpish!
What happened to wonder?
Why can't we accept we're not capable of thunder?
So we welcome the lies with open arms
And we turn into suckers when they turn on the charm
You're trying to run us all into the ground
To be swallowed by the soil and trapped by the rain
In your concrete garden of falseness
You shout through our speakers and we don't turn them off
'Cause trapped in silence it's tougher
But this time we'll turn the speakers off
And we won't stay silent
We'll make as much noise as we can
And I ask, "What's a though without a voice to voice it?"
It's just a thought
It's just a thought
It's just a thought
And I ask, "What's a though without a voice to voice it?"
It's just a thought
It's just a thought
The original affluent society
Floating free of capitalistic anxiety
But all that's survived now is the pack vibe
But the catch is dogs don't eat other dogs
We're able animals employed by criminals in this cannibalistic society
Where we scrimp and save just to behave with the utmost propriety
You're trying to run us all into the ground
To be swallowed by the soil and trapped by the rain
In your concrete garden of falseness
You're trying to run us all into the ground
To be swallowed by the soil and trapped by the rain
In your concrete garden of falseness

It's just a thought
It's just a thought
We will shout our heads off
We won't stop until you hear
We won't stop until you trip up upon yourselves
I see a kid with his mouth
And I ask, "What's a though without a voice to voice it?"
It's just a thought

To be honest, if you ask me, it's not specifically "pro atheism". The line "Whatever happened to thunder? Why can't we accept we're not capable of thunder?" specifically is about as anti-atheistic as you can get. I think the idea of the song is more anti-fundamentalistic, telling people to use their own mind and keep their belief to themselves rather than being specific anti or pro theistic.
I interpreted that line as meaning we make up mythical beings to explain what we can't control. "What happened to wonder?" Why must we have an explanation for everything we don't yet understand? and the previous line, "Quick! give him a name, a trident, and a chair" is obviously referring to Poseidon. Anyway, my point is that I believe that line is definitely an atheist point of view, but I don't think this is a pro-atheist song..

why has no one commented yet? this song has incredible lyrics.
but i think it's pro athiesm and the way religion has encouraged the downfall of society, "civilizations encouraged religion which in turn introduced depravity" but maybe i've warped the lyrics to suit my own opinion. =) also that people are so susceptible and insecure that they "welcome the lies with open arms", employing christianity as a way to deal with things. also that the religious leaders 'turn on the charms' to lure people in.
and obvs about uprising and all that. corrupt governing.
Atualy, i think that the most common religious state of mind is to not question your authorities, "which in turn introduced depravity" by giving greedy people the possibility to corupt their followers to gain profit in whatever way. Thereby giving giving some clarity in the history of corruption ES propagandiates the need to speek your mind, cause: "What's a though without a voice to voice it?" It's just a thought. And if not spoken you are aproving the current state/ politic/ religion/ philosophy and therefor furthermore allowing any possible depravity to continue, which i think you should not. Speak up....

well first of all, why does everything anti-religion have to be about christianity.. but regardless i dont think its pro-atheism... maybe agnostic, but i think its talking more about how people have to depict and define literally everything.. like religion, they have to label every little thing, we cant just know there issomething greater, something is there. but like mozared said, its more anti-fundamentalistic. like each specific religion believes in their own right that theyre the rght one, and if you believe otherwise your wrong, because "this is exactly how it is". its more just develop your own thought. like, why cant we have our own beliefs, why do we have to stay silent and believe only what the leaders say
and if you listent to All Eyes on the Saint, that is clearly a very Pro-Religion song..

I have to agree with you on this one, sounds very agnostic to me. "Not content with a doubt about the knowledge of who's up there Quick! give him a name, a trident, and a chair sharpish What happened to wonder?" Sounds to me like he's indicting our need to know everything, we should just be happy enough to know there is something bigger than ourselves, without forcing a name and title and moral code on it.

I don't really think its about religion. I get more of a anti society/government vibe
In the second run through of the second chorus, and from then on, he sings "I see a kid with his mouth shut..."
"Not content with a doubt about the knowledge of who's up there Quick! give him a name, a trident, and a chair"-gotta be religious, I think it's saying that just because people don't know something they create gods to fill in the gaps, that's why he says it after mentioning the discovery of gravity, cause at one point we didn't know about that, it was god, but now it's science, if that makes sense
