Look Out, Look Out Lyrics

Mary, Mary Bell
with an upper-case M
All your neighbors know
what your mother sells
But you carved out a name
for yourself

Look out, look out
There are murders about

Guinea pig hair
and a twisted mouth
Through a hole to the railway
And Brian's face down
Keep your wits
He will not be missed
He didn't have a family to begin with

Look out, look out
There are murders about

"All your neighbors know what your mother sells" - Mary's mother was a prostitute who forced Mary to 'add value' to her services.

"Mary, Mary-belle with an upper-case M" "But you carved out a name; you carved out a name for yourself" - Mary carved the letter 'M' into the stomach of her second victim Brian Howe with a pair of scissors after he died.

"Look out, look out There are murders about" - Mary and her friend Norma Bell broke into a nursery school and scribbled notes confessing to the murders (Mary later said it was for a giggle), this was dismissed as a prank until she was arrested. One of the notes read 'Look out there are murders about'.

"Through a hole to the railway And Brians face down" - Describes the Brian Howe murder scene.

"He will not be missed He didnt have a family to begin with" - Mary Bell was quoted as saying 'Brian Howe had no mother, so he won't be missed'.

Sorry, can't see the relevance of guinea pig hair, though Mary did cut Brian's hair with the scissors around the time of his mutilation.

Sad sad song. In my opinion if Mary served 12 years in prison, her mother should have served 80.

Reminds me of "John Wayne Gacy, Jr."

I love beautiful songs that reflect on the sadness of murders, or serial killers. I agree with mathilde, it reminds me also of "John Wayne Gacy Jr" by Sufjan Stevens, another beautiful song about a notorious serial killer.

I must add that I love the way he sings "Look out, look out" in the chorus; to me it sounds like he's really pleading. You can really hear the concern in his voice.
