After reading the lyrics a few times I actually wondered if "Samantha" was written about Courtney's difficult relationship with Frances. It's no secret that Frances has stated on her social media stuff that her and Courtney have tough relationship, and that she has felt Kurt's mom was more of her mother due Courtney's lifestyle. In fact Frances stated in her 2015 Rolling Stone interview that after watching "Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck" with Courtney, that her mom actually apologized to her about her childhood. And lastly, Frances also emancipated herself from Courtney when she was 17, at which this song was written. I get the feeling some Courtney's hurt over her daughter leaving her but also angry for leaving her alone.
