State of Emergency

The line "she'll charge you by the hour for a straight trip down to hell" screams prostitute to me though it could simply be a video-girlesque type. To be honest I think this whole song reads as a warning for some guy who is getting too close . He's stating that he's not a lover but is still afraid that this girl could hurt him. "When you touch the fire your heart can still get burned" For some reason whenever i read this line it doesn't make me think that he's afraid to fall in love with someone who is clearly unnavailable to return honest love (maybe because he states he's not a lover) but instead he's using the heart to get it past disney. By lyng with a prostitute you come back with a little more than you came with if you catchmy drift :P If you look at it this way the fire and "burning" makes a lot of sense.There's lots of other parts i see this in the song even in the title "state of emergency" So maybe my prostitute STI theory is a bit out there but it makes sense to me.

I feel like he's being pressured into sex by a girl he loves, against his will. He's telling her to "run around with someone else", and leave him alone because what she wants is not what he wants. She'll say that she has an "emergency", when she really just wants him to come to her quickly. It's like she's crying wolf, and he keeps falling for it, and he's mad about that, but he just loves her so much. He doesn't want to let her go, but he knows that she'll soon be letting him go. As in, she's going to let him fall.

I might be wrong, but I think I remember Nick saying something about how this song is about a girl that's just no good and he's trying to warn the guy that she's with. Though this could just be a cover up for what the song is really about, because luckyyou13's idea seems like it might be right. lol

I think that this song is about a girl that he was with in the past but is no longer dating. Maybe when he was with her she wanted him to do things that he wasn't comfortable with, like pressuring him into sex, but it was hard to resist because she's seductive. He sees through her ways and breaks it off with her, and now is warning other people about her ways. She pretty much forces guys to dedicate their time to her and her wants and needs. She doesn't get into serious relationships, she kinda just wants to play around with boys all the time until they fall for her, like Nick did, and then she goes off with someone else. She doesn't really care about anyone but herself.

I always thought this song was about a hooker, but everyone else's ideas sem more likely.

It is obvious that whoever this song is about has hurt him, the person obviously has influence over him "She's seductive But she does it well" obviously he isn't with the person "You run around with someone else Satisfy yourself" he doesn't think she should be with that person she is just filling a void getting satisfaction from someone else cause perhaps he isn't around "She'll tell you that she'll leaving If you don't put your life on pause" however "I know it's hard when life's unfair But that doesn't mean you shouldn't care Show me the way to reach your heart Where do I start?" shows that he does want to be with the person and that he does care about them.

I believe Nick recieved his inspiration from a past exsperience, but I believe he worded it to, indirectly, mention the Bible.
