The Ghost Inside Lyrics

She sold her love to a modern man
Good solid currency's the hardest to land
All of that money helps you cover your ass
Don't let the ladyfinger blow in your hands
Did it all...

For that dollar
She's a star tonight
Without warning
She gave up the ghost inside

Just like a whiskey bottle drained on the floor
She got no future just a life to endure
This good Samaritan is shakin' her hand
Too late to leave here now the songs in the can
Give it up...

For that dollar
She's a star tonight
Without warning
She gave up the ghost inside

You call it chivalry
Never pull a punch for free
You ever wonder why they had to move on?
This phony honor code
That put you on your throne
A double standard you invoke when you want...

For that dollar
She's a star tonight
Without warning
She gave up the ghost inside

Was it all for show?
Don't turn into one of them
Turning a page,
Trust me darling,
I'm carving a moat through the dust in your town
Crawling over rubble
Just to serve you
Tend to wonder why...

I don't think this is about prostitution specifically in the conventional sense where one trades physical pleasure for money.

This is more about any individual who gives up their ethics, their spirit, beliefs, freedoms for money. I think the artist implied it to be very generic.

Because in times like these, this is so applicable. We have so many people in this country that gave up all they belived into just for money, some to survive and others because they were making a lot. All this tragic unemployment and foreclosures that we have, the poverty a lot of people were driven to, all are results of the actions by the few that many knew were coming... but closed their eyes on because the money was fantastic.

And now its time for them to move on and be better than that.

I was on a mission to find the correct lyrics for this song, but couldn't. This is what I came up with, near positive it's correct -

She sold her love to a modern man, Cause solid currency's the hardest to land, All of that money helps you cover your eyes, Don't let the lady finger blow in your hand.

Did it all, For that dollar. She's a star tonight. Without warning, She gave up the ghost inside.

Just like a whiskey bottle drained on the floor, She got no future, just a love to endure. This gives some merit to shaking her hind, Too late to leave him, now the son's in her care.

Give it up, For that dollar. She's a star tonight. Without warning, She gave up the ghost inside.

You call it chivalry, never pull a punch for free. You ever wonder why they had to move on? This phony article, that put you on your throne. A double standard you invoke when you want.

For that dollar, She's a star tonight. Without warning, She gave up the ghost inside.

Was it all for show? Don't turn into one of them. Turn another page. Trust me darling, I'm carving 'em up through the dust in your town. Crawling over rubble, Just to serve you. Tend to wonder why.

Shaking her hind (as in ass?) or hand?

Thank you sir. These are correct.

The posted lyrics are incorrect. Hopefully they will correct the mistake soon. Please view the corrected lyrics below. Thank you! The Ghost Inside

She sold her love to a modern man Cause solid currency's the hardest to lend All that money helps you cover your eyes Don't let the lady finger blow in your head

Give it up for that daughter She's a star tonight Without warning She gave up the ghost inside

Just like a whiskey bottle drained on the floor She got no future just a life to endure This gives some matter to shaking her hide "Too Late to Leave Him" are the songs in her car

Give it up for that daughter She's a star tonight Without warning She gave up the ghost inside

Me thinks:

She sold her love to a modern man Cause solid currency's the hardest to land All that money helps you cover your eyes Don't let the lady finger blow in your head

Give it up for that dollar She's a star tonight Without warning She gave up the ghost inside

Thanks, I changed them.

dude your lyrics aren't even close. the posted lyrics are much closer. No way is it daughter it doesn't make sense with the rest of the song. the only posted lyric that is way off is "this gives some matter to shaking her hide." it should be "this good samaritan shakin her hard." i.e. her pimp shaking her down for money. good samaritan obviously being sarcastic.

The line is "Don't let the lady finger blow in your hand"

A ladyfinger is a small firecracker. I can't see this line being anything else.

Good call, that makes plenty of sense.

Correction, it's definitely "for that daughter" and not "dollar."

I take that correction back

maybe she feels like if she actually thinks about what she is doing- staying with a man for the money even though she doesn't love him- it will blow up on her- like a firecracker

I've always thought this song was about a high class prostitute, with the ghost inside being her "soul" or dignity or something similar, basically saying that she doesn't care about anything but the money and it's all she has now. It sounds to me like she lives a glamorous life by sleeping with rich men, but her life is basically all about money and actually really empty and sad. Her life seems perfect because she's got a lot of money and everybody wants her, but she's really dead inside. But that's just my interpretation. Also the lyrics on this page are like, really far off from the actual words. Great song, anyway~

I believe in the verse:

"Feel like a daughter She's like a star tonight Without wanting She gave up The ghost inside"

It's actually with "without a warning" rather than "without wanting." I think. They're so hard to understand sometimes haha.

Thanks. I think I caught that later but didn't edit it here.

"Just like a whiskey bottle drained on the floor She got no future, just a love to endure"

I believe it's 'a lot to endure' and not 'love.'

"A double standard Here we look when we walk"

that's definitely 'you envoke when you want.'

Your second recommendation is definitely right, however even upon review I still think he is saying "A love to endure." It also happens to be a more relevant line to the rest of the song, and makes a more powerful metaphor with the whiskey bottle. Maybe try going over it again.

For the third line I hear "All of the money helps you cover your eye", which makes more sense anyway.

2nd verse, 3rd line... pretty sure he's saying "This good samaritan shaking her ___ " (hand? could be hide...). I could be wrong but that's what it sounds like to me.

2:15 forward is fucking amazing
