I turned that mans first born to sand
In fact, that's how you have that castle
That you dreamed of, that you wanted
I am here to fix everything.

I took your toothy grin, and left a patch of skin.
I took her batting lashes, changed them from blonde to ashes.
I took the boy with the giant head, and I made his body smaller and his neck too thin.
I took that tongue of that annoying neighbor child, yes, I split it down the middle, let it bleed there for a while.

You are so small, she said...
You are so small.

Hey, while you were out there serving wine
I was up here in the balcony, turning faces white, I said
Hey, while you were out there kissing babies
I was luring kids with lollypops, and now they're pushing daisies.

You are so small.

You will not be heard from for a long time
You will not be found with your rightful hands or eyes
When your mother finds you, you won't believe her cries
Wish the child gone missing had been the child who died.

Hey, you, I can be a miracle man too
Hey, you, I can change everything.
Hey, you, I can be a miracle man too
Hey, you, I can fix everyone.

I turned that mans trophy wife to brass
He'd barely notice a difference.
I taught him she served us no fucking purpose.
I am here to fix everyone.

"Goddamn," you might say.
"Quite the talent," I'd say.

Temper, temper.
Patience, patience.

Don't change me into...

You will not be heard from for a long time
I will be around because, fear will never die
And if they should find you, it'd be a sight to see.
A mass of flesh and muscle, a pile of pulp and teeth.

I am finally a kingdom.
Make use of all the skills that you once told me I had
Took a town of some brains, but mostly fat, and turned them to something beautiful.

Both as a standalone and as part of the DSOTS album, you can take this lyric as read. As a matter of public record, Jourgensen's drug intake was legendary even in the 1980s. By the late 90s, in his own words, he was grappling with massive addiction issues and had lost almost everything: friends, spouse, money and had nearly died more than once. "Dark Side of the Spoon" is a both funny & sad title for an album made by a musical genius who was losing the plot; and this song is a message to his fans & friends saying he knows it. It's painful to listen to so I'm glad the "Keith Richards of industrial metals" wised up and cleaned up. Well done sir.

Standing On The Edge Of Summer
Thursday
In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
