100 Suns is the title of a book which shows 100 photos of nuclear bombs and was inspired by a quote stating that a detonating nuclear bomb is like the glowing of a thousand suns. I think the song says he doesn't believe in the concepts and creations of humanity/society and that all of this will just be destroyed by ourselves anyways (100 suns until we part). He believes only in those things that weren't artificially created by society(the beating of our hearts, the truth of who we are).
I definitely agree with this. I think Jared is also talking about how we (humans and all life) are connected by powerful forces of the universe all the time without even knowing e.g. 'the beating of our hearts' line. In my opinion, this song is about showing compassion and empathy towards other people so that we are "we" not "me, me, me"

I love how "This is War" becomes "100 Suns" on the album. There's a lost art to album making where every song has a meaning of it own but all the songs relate to one another in some way. Every song is connected to the song before it. Pink Floyd, Sigur Ros, Nine Inch Nails, all bands that 30 Seconds to Mars have referenced as influences have done it and it's so cool to see 30 Seconds to Mars bring it back. As for the meaning, I don't think it's really meant to be taken seriously. I think what he means to say is at the end of the day, all that matters is what's within us, not what surrounds us in the outside world.

I think it's actually "not in Satan, not in God"
Candykaos probably got the meaning right, but I can't help but think of love when I hear this song. Like, when you're with the one you love, the world doesn't matter and all things, both good and bad, just fade away. The song also brings this feeling of relief, as if something negative has gone away, like finally reuniting with your love, or the ending of a war, which fits nicely with the album's theme. Anyway, that's just how I see it. Very simple and yet so very emotional.

In my opinion, I believe he's trying to say this is what we as humans think when in war. (Since this is also played with the song "This Is War" on their album) That not necessarily he doesn't believe in those things, but that when we are in war we tend to get caught up in things, and in the end we only focus on the beating of our hearts and the truth of who we really are as humans. We sort of block everything else out, and may not focus on what we really truly believe in.
Also I think it could speak of doubts we have, we may always have doubts on certain things (ie. the earth, stars, end and start, sin and God, peace and war, etc) but we never doubt the beating of our hearts and our lives and we never doubt who we are. Because those are things we know are real no matter what.
So it can be interpreted in two ways for me.
if you read the books by Eckhart Tolle it seems that Jared actually subscribes to those beliefs (eg belief in BEING & NOW and the GOD WITHIN as opposed to an external or higher power). that is the truest, non-judgemental "religion". most spiritually discontent people that have read these books (which strip away the extraneous matter that the bible and 10000 years of misinterpretation currently lent to the bible or the teachings of Buddha & JC) tend to see the truth in it. in fact a lot of 30stm songs share the sentiments of these books.
"This is war" suggests that there is certainty of the war. In "100 suns" the lyrics "I believe in nothing, not in etc.." may suggest that a point has been reached in where he is CERTAIN what has been mentioned (Belief + Truth = Certainty)
I think its about how naive the human race is, we don't know when the world started or will end, we don't know if god does exist but we definitely know that we are here right now and that could be all we'll ever know.
To me this song is about someone that's been through so much shit (maybe a war or something since This is war and 100 Suns are almost one and the same song) that he/she doesn't believe in anything he is seeing when he looks around. He is wondering if the world that he lives in is real or if it's all just a dream. He is done with all the lies that he's been told about everything and the only thing he believes in now is just the beating of his heart and the truth of what/who we are.
