Speedo Lyrics

Well now, they often call me Speedo
But my real name is Mr. Earl
Umm-hm-hm-hm
Now, they often call me Speedo
But my real name is Mr. Earl
Um-hm-hm-hm
Known for meetin' brand new fellas
And takin' other folk's girl

Well now, they often call me Speedo
'Cause I don't believe in wastin' time
Umm-hm-hm
Well, they often call me Speedo
'Cause I don't believe in wastin' time
Umm-hm-hm
Well, I'm known some pretty women
And that's caused them to change their minds
Umm-hm-hm

Well now, some may call me, Joe
Some may call me, Moe
Just remember Speedo
He don't never take it slow

Well now, they often call me Speedo
But my real name is Mr. Earl
Umm-hm-hm
Well now, they often call me Speedo
But my real name is Mr. Earl
Umm-hm-hm

Well now, some may call me, Moe
Some may call me, Joe
Just remember Speedo
He don't never take it slow

Well now, they often call me Speedo
But my real name is Mr. Earl
Umm-hm-hm
Well now, they often call me Speedo
But my real name is Mr. Earl
Umm-hm-hm
And now they got to call me Speedo
'Till they call off makin' pretty girls

LOL...I thought it was going to be a song about the disgusting swim suits for males (and I was going to recommend it for a mixtape about Canada...where I used to see TOO many men wearing speedos:). However, this song is about a wanna be clubbing pickup artist who seldom scores. Reminds me of the older slimy disco dudes in the late 70's. (Man, they got A's for effort, but they usually went home alone:). I cannot count how many of their disgusting hands I used to remove from my underage teenage butt!

@rolypolywoofwoof Wow, are you off. You must be a young pup. The song was a DoWop song from the 1950s. One of the greatest of the era. Read a bit about them and listen with an open mind.

I don't know why, but I've always like this song. I guess I used to hear it as a young child on some 8-track mixed tape and it brings back good memories. It's about a guy whose name is Mr. Earl, but they call him Speedo. He's the kind of guy who doesn't have time to stop and chat. Go go go, is this fella, especially when it comes to the ladies. Whatever. It's a 50's rock-n-roll doo-wop song. Those don't need meanings.

@normynull right on! I used to listen to it when it was 78rpm vinyl (or stiff plastic) and on the radio (Brooklyn Paramount Theater) I believe with Alan Freed. Deep, deep in the history and annals of Rock 'n Roll.
