To be Scared by an Owl Lyrics
Look at the sky as the night descends
The rain is crashing down, I've hit another dead end
Just before I let hope slip away
A shadow is revealed, the devil shows his face
I'm scared to death and have myself to blame, I'm to blame
How did we end up fighting anyway?
You know, I used to search the sky and dream of where you were
I need you by my side, we can end this together
I know I promised you the world and still I let you down
I need you by my side and together we'll end this now
Look in my eyes! Am I shaking now?
I am all you fear, have I made myself clear?
Shut your mouth and finish what you've started
Boy, you haven't got the slightest idea
Just who I am and what I do for you
Don't you see that I am trying to save you?
Shut your mouth and finish what you've started
I'm scared to death and have myself to blame, no one else
How did we end up fighting anyway?
You know, I used to search the sky and dream of where you were
I need you by my side, we can end this together
I know I promised you the world and still I let you down
I need you by my side and together we'll end this now
As the last rays of sunlight fade, one killer chases another
Through the tangled madness of the city
A flash of steel announces the presence of his quarry
The stage is set, the night explodes...
You killed her you murderer
You have stripped me of the one that I love
Annabel, our Annabel
You have no clue what she's capable of...
I'm scared to death and have myself to blame
How did we end up fighting anyway?
You know, I used to search the sky and dream of where you were
I need you by my side, we can end this together
I know I promised you the world and still I let you down
I need you by my side and together we'll end this now
You'd better look behind you...
The rain is crashing down, I've hit another dead end
Just before I let hope slip away
A shadow is revealed, the devil shows his face
How did we end up fighting anyway?
I need you by my side, we can end this together
I know I promised you the world and still I let you down

Hmm, maybe this song was inspired by "Annabel Lee" a poem by Edgar Poe? Where Annabel and the narrator love each other to death and then angels kill Annabel because of jealousy. So the narrator dreams of lying by her side in her tomb by the sea.
In fact the whole album is based on the poem...

they said that the whole album is a story broken down into 11 shorter stories... maybe it's the life of Annabel..?
...the lover...in her tomb by the sounding sea...annabel...
annabel...our annabel... you have no clue what she's capable of...:D
Did it say that in the booklet of the album? Cause in an interview he said it was about a sketcher who woke up with his girlfriend slaughtered, dead in bed beside him. And he didn't know who killed her.

Wow, this song is so eMazing! It made me instantly stoked for their new album.<3 I think this song may be about losing a girl to another guy...? I dunno, I've got the cliche 'every song is about a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship' mindset... heh.
this song is off the album,The Emptiness... It's based on the wonderful poem written by Edgar Allan Poe. The story

The story that The Emptiness revolves around was written by Dennis Lee and Shawn Milke. It is inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's last poem "Annabel Lee". The short story is included in the album jacket. The Plot The central character of the story, a sketch artist known simply as "The Artist" wakes up one day to find his lover, Annabel, dead, lying next to him. Heartbroken and terrified, he buries her in his basement and flees. He wanders aimlessly until he comes to a tavern, where he hears the sounds of merriment and laughter. He decides that if he can't be happy no one can and slaughters everyone in the tavern. After wandering through many places and finding Annabel's killer, "The Thespian", at the end of the story The Artist finally comes face to face with him to fight to the death. He is stabbed in his side with a dagger and finds himself in a room with Annabel holding a dagger in hand. From here on the story's point of view switches from The Artist to Annabel where she explains that The Artist had slowly been sinking into madness all this while, as he became more and more withdrawn and his sketches more and more violent. Though she loved him, in the end she had to take his life in the attempt to defend herself from him.
"The Artist spends the day planning his attack and the evening hunting for the Thespian. A flash of light from the blade of the Thespian stings his eyes and the two engage in a fight to the death. Armed with only his hands and the fleeting memories of his Annabel, the Artist vows revenge." -Alesana
ahh i love this song. im going to their show friday. imm excited to hear them live (:
I think it is based on the poem Annabel.. Loosely though... Because there is a lot of story going on... Like he loves this girl and shes murdered... and he confronts the murderer and its like them chasing each other down... And the album isn't based in a "kingdom by the sea" the whole time. I'm sure Annabel the poem is a major part but it wouldn't be Alesana if they didn't tell their own story along with it.
The title of this song HAS to have something to do with the movie The Fourth Kind, the song was released a week afterwards
The whole album is based on Edgar Allan Poe poems with an Alesana mix added to it. So basically what I've figured out is the guys lover, Annabel, is killed. He is so shocked about her death that he starts going crazy. I believe that he goes after her murderer and kills him, and might have killed other people too? I was a little confused there. Then he can't live with the pain of Annabel being dead, so he decides to commite suicide, but suddenly Annabel appears. He can't believe that she's there and he's happy and just wants to be with her. I think she's mad at him for killing and that he has no shame about it. And I think he knows she's mad, so he tries to run from her or something. Or he just tries to work it out. Haha, I was also confused there. Ha ha. And then the last song I believe is in the eyes of Annabel and she kills him for his wrong doings. So yeah. That's what I think.
so actually i think your REALLY close but that he killed her.if you listen to the thespian it makes it sound like he has a demon or another personality and he killed her.by commiting suicide he kills the murderer and he gets to be with annabel.but at the same time it seems some other songs contradict that theory so i may be wrong but thats the way i see it.so pretty uch hes insane.

Actually, the story starts with the guy waking up with a dead "Annabel" beside him. He starts blaming himself, at the same time trying to convince himself that it was only a dream. Guilt makes him see what he believes is Annabel's ghost being tormented and angry at him. Losing his mind, he thinks about committing suicide (Hymn for the Shameless). In the song "The Thespian", a third character introduces himself as the one who was really responsible for Annabel's death....

@XxMephisto: You're wrong. The thespian IS the artist, he has a split personality and he's gone insane. The artist doesn't kill himself. Read the story of the emptiness to find out what happens

The Artist Comes to grips with Annabel's Death and realises that he will not be able to be at peace until he finds the Thespian, who is the man who killed her, and Return the favor by Killing him. He Spends the day planning the attack and by night he tells himself to get back into the Psycho He was at the Tavern(in the song The Murderer). When he finally finds the Thespian, He stalks him into the woods, and they both charge at each other like wild beasts slashing and stabbing each other violently. Eventually the Artist falls to his knees infront of the thespian and he pushes every ounce of strength he has, but his legs wont move, and as the Thespian is about to Finish him off, He hears Annabel's voice saying "Everything is going to be okay my love, follow my voice, Everything will be fine, Its all over now(as she says its all over now, Her voice sounds pretty angry)" << this interlude is only available if you buy the full album. GO TO THE SONG ANNABEL, I have posted the meaning to it too. (:
