Enemy Lyrics

I have made you an enemy
I have been my own enemy
I am asking for you to forgive me
For everything

If you don't
You're worthy of compassion
If you do
You're a better man than I am

If you don't know, you're my family
Enemy
I'm sorry
Oh, enemy, family
Forgive me

If you don't
You're worthy of compassion
If you do
You're a better man than I am
If you do
You're a better man than I am

Enemy, enemy, family, family

this really explains the situation that i am in right now. someone recently said that they didnt like me, and at first, i was a little mad and ticked off. then, i heard this song and realized that even my enemies are my family and i must love them no matter what. Jesus died for them too, so that must be worth something. -Livvy :D

Very true! :D

from my view, i think it's talking about how you can delusion yourself into hating people for such small things. you can turn against yourself if you don't like something, "I have been my own enemy" i think its also about trying to forgive yourself and others "If you don't you're worthy of compassion If you do you're a better man than I am" it can be hard to forgive but like it says, if you do you're a better man than i am

To me, this is definitely a song of forgiveness. Of forgiving herself, and the one whom she called enemy/hated. A very beautiful, heartbreaking song.

I think this is based on the bible quote 'Love your neighbour'. Person A has wronged or angered Person B. Person A asks for forgiveness. They tell Person B that if they don't forgive them, they need help from God ('compassion'). If they do, they are a better person for forgiving them. The rest is pretty self explaintory from a Christian point of view; we are all God's children. Sorry if that was confusing ;)

I really like your take on the song. More than a decade ago during the Jewish Atonement I sent a letter to a woman asking her to forgive me. I had said something cruel about her to others. To this day I have no clue if she forgave me (I hope she did), but I was able to forgive myself for being such a uncaring jerk. I try hard not to talk (bad) about anyone, but that came with age. There's always something good in every person providing you look hard enough (and wish to see it).

Enemy is about forgiveness.

"I have made you an enemy I have been my own enemy." = Since Lacey has not forgiven you, and "hated" you, in doing that, she has made an enemy out of herself for not forgiving you. (Fighting ends in forgiveness.)

"I am asking for you to forgive me For everything." = Self-explanatory

"If you don't You're worthy of compassion If you do You're a better man than I am" = If you don't forgive me, I will still say I'm sorry no matter what, If you do forgive me, you're a good man, for being mature and apologizing first. No matter what I did.

"If you don't know, you're my family Enemy I'm sorry Oh, enemy, family Forgive me." = We are all brothers and sisters and Jehovah is the father. Even if we were not born from the same mom/dad. We should all forgive and love our neighbors. Because we are family,

"Enemy, enemy, family, family." = Lacey saying that her enemies are her family.
